bike that was down
« on: February 27, 2009, 08:36:38 AM »
I am looking at a 2003 shadow...guy said it was laid down at about 25mph....you think this is worth looking at or could there be major issues as far as the frame goes....guy says there is a dent on the tank and some other scratches but is ok other than that...and it has a title...

Well...speed doesn't really tell you much. Even a high speed slide may not cause much damage (structurally) and a slower crash with a harder impact can do alot more.

I would say it is worth looking at but be wary of a few things. Obviously visually inspect the forks and frame the best you can but also make sure it is a clean title and not a salvage. I would suspect that it would have had to take some pretty major damage to write it off but you never know.

was it laid down at 25mph vertically or horizontally?   ;D

25mph worth of down force is quite different you know.   ;)

yes, definitely have someone look into if the frame is actually straight.
and find out if and or what the seller had checked out post laydown.

my accident last year on my ducati was at about 25/30mph...that bike was totaled by the insurance company.
it was a laydown of the horizontal variety (dodging an oncoming car) w/a lot of grinding involved w/the asphault and tweaking to the forks and frame.

Mate got killed last week on him BMW, they had his bike at the funeral, hardly a scratch and it got laid down on oil slick at 100kph+.
More importantly, how much $$$ does he want for it? ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
