What size are these points/timing screws
« on: February 27, 2009, 06:40:01 AM »
I got this great tip here somewhere to replace the points adjusting screws with socket head or allen screws. I like stainless myself and they're readily available at the local hardware store so I picked up three. The parts manual shows three 5/12  wth part numbers but just shows pictures of the other screws in there with no part number.  So are the 5/12s for the three breaker plate adjustment screws and if so what are the screws for the breaker point gap adjustment? I know not to over tighten but these screws get a lot of action and a t-bar allen wrench makes things a lot easier. There's also a couple more less used screws to attach the points but I don't know what they are either.

Take the points and plate off the bike, and go down to the local hardware store and start test fitting them.  Not all hdw. stores carry metric shcs, and especially in stainless, but I had good luck.
