I just wish I could work a little less. I get 4 days off a month. Not much time to spread between kids and house repairs and such.

Hmmm... I think, now, that my earlier answer may have been a bit smart-a$$ed.

It's all in the reasoning.

I've had the internet around for a long time. I think it'd be harder for me to just give it up for sharts and giggles. If I had to I totally could.

If nothing else tramp it gives you something to take up time when you just don't feel like doing anything else.

If you want to do the things you used to do "back in the day" then do them. You don't need to eliminate things from your life to get back to things you used to do.

Tramp, it's really good, that when you have a concern, to look at the overall picture and see just what you should do to have it like you need it to be. :) I know that I spend alot of time on here myself. I really enjoy the fact that I can "connect with" folks from different countries around the world. ;) If not for the internet, there is no way that I would have ever become acquainted  with everyone here. Since I can't seem to find much time to do much on bikes yet (although it's coming), I can see what's going on with you all and participate in conversations and my family (mainly, the Wife) has the feeling that I'm in here with them, even though mentally I'm not! :D I know that I'm addicted to the net, but I can still exercise some control over it. In fact, today (after I get back from visiting my Dad), I expect to get some of that "Outside Time"! 8)

Sorry about getting carried away here, I simply meant to say that (for me) it's good to have access to the net to be able to connect with you all and to have a cell phone (or a prepaid one) for emergencies, if nothing else. ;) Sometimes, I have a hard time exercising control over my responses and they get a bit drawn out. ::)

p.s... good luck getting me to answer the phone, that's just how i deal w/ that one.   ;D

Same here.  I only answer my phone for three people:  My wife, my mom, and my best friend.  Everybody else gets to leave a message if they really want to talk to me.

I'm with you: my list is even shorter!

Neither Kit or I get into TV much. If cable didn't come with the apartment, we wouldn't have it. We have cable internet cuz we get a good deal on it, being in a big apartment complex, group deal kind of thing. The phone... as she said, we have no land line. We communicate with each other the most, texting on the cells. With the stress of her in college and me working at a major trauma center, the mental health check-ins we do all day keeps us sane.

If ya don't use it much, go with the pay as you go cell. In an emergency, you will be glad you have it. Remember when we had 3 channels and could find something worthwhile to watch? Now with 120 channels, there is nothing on there worth my time except a few older rerun shows (love MASH). Cable can be dropped and just rent movies/shows as you want. Internet is free at libraries if you are a member, which is also free. While you're there, pick up a good book and take it with you. Mobile entertainment.  :)

tramp have you ever read the book "Where I Lived and What I Lived For"? It's by Henery David Thoreau, even though I believe the guy was a little wacked in the head, he raises some good points.

Although he cut himself off as an experiment and ended up losing his mind lol, it's a dangerous road my friend be careful!  ;D

You should read the book though, if you have not, it's only like 100 pages, short, but good read.

I remember week plus hunting trips with my dad, and they were great- but toward the end, just hearing music from a radio had a special feeling to it. The cabin had no electricity, was out in the granite-filled band of WI where the phone reception is pretty much nil (not that we had cell phones then) heat was a wood stove, light was an oil lamp (and flash lights) and the bathroom was an outhouse.  We had a crank-up radio that we used occasionally... but it was more a treat.

Sometimes I really miss that. It's hard to obtain that kind of solace these days... I don't know if we'd get busted for driving up forest service roads and popping up a tent a mile from anywhere or not, but I also strongly suspect shooting squirrels etc for supply supplements would be frowned upon.  hmm.
