How much do you want for the treeX3.  Quails@juno.com
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

You may not want this particular triple tree, I'm saving this one for a swap to some sportbike front end....I've ground the weld off the bottom, but I haven't pressed the stem out yet, sorry.

Not only are they different but they are also "oddball" when tied up with the outers diameter so yoiu cant just go and buy bearings you have to get one of the "kits"
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

How about this...http://www.realmagicwands.com/

Just kidding, it should be a fairly direct swap. Did the '78 GW have spoke wheels, or had they changed over to cast, by that time? I'm thinking the same transplant, but want to keep the spokers which is why I haven't grafted a later F onto a K, yet.

have you tried posting the same question on hondachopper.com? there is at least one guy there who has tried the later gw front end swap and maybe can help you.

I thought 78 was the mag wheel on a GW. When I look up fork seals and headstock bearings I always see it as 75-77 (76-77 in some cases) sO I always assumed it is different. For doing the 75 swap I have, it takes one cb750 temkin bearing ( I think the lower) and one GL1000 temkin bearing (I think the upper, but I would test fit to make sure). If the bearings are listed as the same for the 78 - I'd try this approach first, you might find the solution is that easy.

I had a friend who was into kawi z-1s, and also worked in a bicycle shop. One night we raided every ball bearing in the joint and started expirementing. The end result: with two different oddball bearing sizes and two flat washers we were able to adapt a ducati 916 front end to his 1975 kz900 streetfighter project (and yes it was safe to ride). This only works on bikes where the original bearings are not temkin bearings (like your GL1000 and cb750 front ends).  I know that in racing some of the fzr400 guys use bearcans to shim their headsotck bearings when the headstock goes out of round so that might be a possible source for shims.

Most of the guys on this board seem to be more into the stock stuff, so custom stuff doesn't get that much of a response. The best way to find out if a GW front will fit in your cb750 is to get your arse in the garage  and start messing with it.

ok here is what I can tell you

The 75-76 gl1000 neck bearing size is:

Upper: 26 x 48.5 x 15.2
Lower: 30 x 50 x 14.4

The 77-79 Gl1000 neck bearing size is:

Upper: 25 x 47 x 15
Lower: 30 x 55 x 17

and the cb750 neck bearing size is:

Upper: 26 x 48.5 x 15.2
Lower: 30 x 50 x 14.4

Check out this link for bearin size interchanges:

The GL100 uses 37mm forks from 75-79. When you get your front end measure the distance between the forks. I'll measure my 75 trees. If they are the same, maybe you can resell your 78 trees and get a set of 75 trees to mount the front end to a cb750.

do the aftermarket timken bearing conversions use the same bearing cup that fits in the frame neck as what is standard on the 750?
