Time to dodge the elephants again!
« on: March 03, 2009, 08:13:11 AM »
So tomorrow I take a train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in the North of Thailand to ride the mountain roads again. Last October, I did it for two days and was hooked. Nothing like rounding a corner and almost rear ending an elephant....making deposits to boot! Some of these mountain roads give the "dragon" a run for the money with endless twisties and not a lot of traffic....mostly local scooters....and beautiful scenery. The roads are very well maintained.

The bike will be a CB400 again..hopefully the same one I had the last time as I am familiar with it. This is a big bike for Thailand. Most of the bikes...millions of them.. are 125cc scooter types. I have seen a few Honda CBR125's....yep 125cc!  They look almost like a CBR600/1000 but have only one cylinder. Tonight, I saw five people on one...two adults and three kids...two on the tank!  :o

I could use a little of that cold weather you guys in the East have been having. It was 96 in BKK today and 80 percent humidity. No snow here for sure. Maybe it will be cooler in the mountains.  :P

If anyone is interested, here is a link to the golden triangle website that has some great info and ride reports.

I will take some of that heat! I would like to get rid of some of my 8+ foot high snow drifts.
