I know stock unused NOS exhausts are hard to find and expensive.  I've just given up on fixing my stockers as too thin and too many holes.

I found the motad through some vendors linked on this form, realized they only sold in the UK, then poked around some and found that Annitori is their US distributor.

http://www.motad.co.uk/product.php?prod=CB750+K7+Sohc

I was looking at the model for a k7 or k8 750, and it
"Sells for $399.95 as a special order, please let us know if we can assist you in any way."  Thats for a full 4into1, not just a slip on.

Is this the new go to for a budget exhaust?  I've heard its quiet, but I don't need a screamer.  I don't like what my PO fitted(An F header with a blackbird silent exhaust), but if I can't have stock I want something reasonably priced.

I just emailed them, here is their contact.  Per the rep they usually do racing setups, but the owner has some old bikes and he thinks thats why they started to carry motard.

So it sounds like this puts them into a Mac pricing range.  I've heard MAC doesn't hold up, how about Motad?

I think that is a really nice looking alternative, which we do not have many.

How about you being our US tester? I'm hoping some of our UK guys can give us a good comparison.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I'm thinking about it, but gotta get the engine together first and then scrape up the cash.  Hopefully can do it in the next month or so

OK Motad was the prefered aftermarket fit at most decent dealers in UK (or at least the ones I worked at).

(1) As quiet as standard

(2) Easy and quick to fit

(3) All brackets supplied (just need new gaskets to head)

(4) decent chrome BUT headers will "Blue" as they are only single skin

(5) last longer than original
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

bryanj has said it all. Motad are well known here in the UK and I had a Motad on a cb250 that I used to own and can confirm that they are good quality.

They are ubiquitous over here. As Bryan says, they are (relatively) cheap and do the job.

I've spoken to Motad about the noise and they suggested that a few holes in the rear baffle wouldn't go amiss. Jim Shea drilled his (he sold the bike way back and now has a garage full of Ducatis)

The red CB750 shown was also one of ours. Sold it to a guy down the road (Sandhurst UK) last Easter and he has now sold it on eBay for £1800!

I had An opportunity to exchange forum posts with Motad on another forum. They, along with David Silvers, will be at an Indianapolis dealer show in March. There may be wider availability of Motad exhausts in the US soon. Might even be some SOHC 4-4 options too! :-D

I emailed David Silver Spares and asked for a quote on a 4-1 for a '78 550K.  He said they currently stock the Motad 4-1 one chrome system for that bike.  Cost + shipping would come to 384.26 GBP (607.98 USD).

Then there was a message saying "Please note that if you are ordering from outside the EU, you may be liable to pay an import duty/tax on arrival of your order. For USA, this is normally 2.5% of the value of the order plus $5 admin fee per delivery."  That comes to $20.20.

Then there was another note saying "Prices exclude VAT @ 20% (if applicable)."

By the time all is said and done, I'd be looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $700 for a 4-1 Motad for my 550K.  Or for a couple of hundred more, I could get a custom stainless 4-2 from BCR.  Are the Motads worth that much?  Are they that good of a pipe?  I hope when they show up in the US that their prices drop a tad.

When I ordered from DSS the VAT was removed ... at least up here in the wild north.

maybe some of the pricing will settle as they are imported, but as was said $700 is out of the question for this pipe.. something in the lower $400 would make sense as they seem to be a bit nicer then the mac, but are still a relatively no frills exhaust.

I have spent about $1500 with DSS no VAT. In NC. Would love to see a 4 into 4 for a 78K 750 8)

Wow!  It looks like they're going to start making a 4-4 stainless system for the 550's.  I wonder 1) if it'll be available in the U.S. and 2) what it'll cost.

You only pay VAT in the UK  :'(

But you may have to pay local taxes depending upon where you are.

Motad did a terrific job with Triumph when they (re)started in 1991. All the stainless exhausts for the Trident, Trophy, Daytona etc were made by Motad. Triumph make their own now but it was a good way of getting going.

this post got me curious so i emailed them to see what they had for my 72 500. got a very fast reply. looks like they have a nice 4-1 set with stainless pipes and a chromed muffler for 330 lbs, equals about 550 usd give or take 40 bucks. . acouple extra bucks sounds worth it for a stainless exhaust. i beleive the model was a m5h.
