Brake Calipers
« on: March 01, 2009, 05:02:54 AM »
I am looking to put dual disc set up on a set of 75 750 forks. I have no calipers as of yet, is there any thing about mixing and matching calipers that I should be carefull about? Are the early calipers all the same? AS in 1973 to 1976. Is there anything I can mix or not. Are the brackets the same? Will CB 550 calipers and bracket fit? Thanks for your help

Use 73 to 76 hangers.

500/550 use smaller disc, different caliper and I think hanger is different.

Some f models have a thicker bracket and different caliper. will work fine if you don't mix parts. just use as a complete unit. right now mine has an f on one side and a k on the other. some k's use a different fork mount but it is unclear to me what years these were used. I think early models.

I believe that the early 750's calipers had the brake line connection off center, which meant that you had to be creative when it came to mounting a similar caliper on the other side.  The early 750F's had the brake line fitting in the center so it didn't matter which side of the wheel it was on.

Actually it's not too bad. When you mount the old K0 caliper on the right side, you just switch the bleed nipple into the brake hose hole and vice versa. all you need to do is pull out the convex insert in the oriinal brakeline hole using the head of a panel pin or something like that and a pair of pliers...

Be careful on thickness and length of the hanger though - took me a while to get my K0s all set up and then when I tried to put the pads in, not enough room so I had to use thicker older hangers. As a result I must have a fair few of these polished up and sat around doing nothing LOL!
