Hello from an Iowa newbie
« on: March 03, 2009, 10:41:48 AM »
Reclaimed my 1976 CB750F this Winter, the bike has always been in my family:

Older brother bought a new 1976 Yellow CB750F new in 1978 in the Twin Cities
Brother laided it down and wedged a tree between the front wheel and motor in 1980
I bought from his insurance company in 1980 and repaired back in Iowa
New Kerker Header - old exhaust was damaged by the tree
New Handlebars - brother broke with stomach when exiting the bike
New Grey paint - to cover dented tank
New Hang2 seat - because I liked it
Sold to a different older brother in 1989 - lack of cash/garage space/not practical with small kids
Bike has been parked in a shed on his dairy farm since about 1993 - stopped running when engine warmed up
I recovered from the shed this Winter and have started tearing down to try and get running again

My goals:
   1. Get the bike running again - the motor is not frozen, but to start the carbs are certainly a mess
   2. Restore the bike to original - rechrome, original seat, original yellow paint, maybe even original exhaust

I'm sure I will be a frequent visitor to try and siphon off some of the vast knowledge and experience of the group

Welcome! Glad to hear that you plan to restore this one. Seems like those early F models get chopped up the most.

Greetings from Colorado and welcome to the "SOHC F Lovers Club". Just ignore the K guys on here as they have exhaust envy with their little pipes. If I can help just let me know.

Thanks for the replies and the offer to help.  Most everyone on this forum seems very helpful.

I built a new 1 1/2 stall detached garage last Summer, so I finally have a place for some toys!

I have gotten the frozen (expanded) battery pryed out of the holder, need to get a new one to see what shape the electrical system is in.  Have ordered carb kits, 15 years of gas draining into the carbs and drying up have made the float bowls and everything inside solid crud.  Warming up enough to start doing some serious cleaning on the old girl, see what I really have to work with.

There is lots of rust on the chrome, looks pretty bad in places.  I don't know how much of that will clean up.  May need to remove parts and get rechromed in a later phase of the project.
