I just received the DVD of "On Any Sunday". Great early 70's racing footage with the great Steve McQueen. I did know that he was riding but I never knew what a good and competitive rider he was.

One of my favorite movies with a motorcycle scene is "The Great Escape" with Steve Mcqueen

At the end of the chase, McQueen and bike are tangled up in the wire.  McQueen reaches down and give the gas tank a pat.  Never fails to bring a tear to my eye. sniff

Rumor has it that Michael Douglas is riding a doctored up HD sportster in "Black Rain" when he clashed with the bad guys. True?

No! This appears to be false... sort of.

He does appear in the first quater of the movie (prior to his clash with the bad guys) riding what does seem to to be a HD sportster. It's got a cafe style faring and I think some drag bars on it. In one scene there is definetly a visible HD emblem on the tank. Through sheer Holywood trickery he wins in a race against a Suzuki.

I just watched "Girl on a motorcycle," the uncut Euro version.  What's not to like?  Bikes, breasts, and that leather jump suit.  Was that ending the official ending for bike flicks from the late 60's?

And for all the Aussies - who can forget the classic "Stone"? Especially the race thru Sydney streets between the Kwaka9 and Norton - sensational stuff.

There was an early 1970s movie titled "Stone Killer" featuring Charles Bronson with a bad guy riding a 1971 CB750K1 with dual discs and during a stunt scene it morphs into a 1971 CB500.

One of the "Dirty Harry" movies with Clint Eastwood has a cool chase with a couple of '60's Triumphs.

Didn't he also chase some rouge cops on a police Harley? After the one rode off the pier and crashed into the bay, I love it when he looks down and mutters, "Briggs was right.. you guys DO need more practice!"

The bad guys were riding 1971 Moto Guzzi 750s but during the stunt scene, it changes to a 650 Triumph. The beginning scene of this movie looked just like the beginning of the popular "Wild 7" comics in Japan when in an 1969 introduction scene, a renegade motorcycle police force stopped a mob boss in a car and just blew him and his associates away with a shotgun (Dirty Harry scene used a gun). The main differences is that in the Wild 7, the renegade police cyclists are heroes. Hey, "Magnificent 7" was copied from "The Seven Samurais" so why not "Dirty Harry:Magnum Force" copied from "Wild 7"?, which itself was a modern motorcycle version of the " The Seven Samurais". They made a TV series about "Wild 7" during the early 1970s but they were riding 1972 Suzuki GT750s. In the original 1969 comics, the lead man rode a 650 Triumph, then CB750s after 1970. They made an animated version during the 1990s which featured the original custom white CB750 police bike. I recently converted one of my CB750 into one, but naturally kept all the parts to bring it back to stock.

He was riding what appears to be a 1977 or 1978 Harley Davidson XLCR (a factory cafe-racer version of the Sportster, the new frame became standard on later Sportsters) but with a different shaped aftermarket bikini fairing instead of the original one.

There is a movie called "Clockwise" starring John Cleese...
In this movie there is a father on a quest to find his run away daughter. The father is riding what appears to me to be a small CB of some type. I'm not sure which it is. There are several scenes in which the bike appears during the first 3rd of the movie. I just couldn't get a good enough look to tell what it is. Perhaps one of the experts could give this movie a view.

That was a great movie. My kid sister saw it before me because she is a Robert Redford fan (ended up editing movie scrips for him at Sundance during her adult years.) I saw it a year later at Drive-In when I became interested in motorcycles and since the movie showed Yamaha Enduros, it became a major decision factor when I chose my first motorcycle, a 1972 Yamaha 125 AT2 Enduro.
