budget billet pegs , cheapy headlight mount.
« on: March 03, 2009, 04:13:54 PM »
two led flashlights from autozone, 10 bucks.
old 550 pegs removed rubber.

snadblasted pegs matched the two mount hole  gutted flashlight and drilled two holes in tube

repaint mount screw em on.

they still fold and you get 6 freebie aaa batteries

cut up old fork lower the size of the distance between trees.

I drilled these for effect

then painted em  and put em on.

when im done with the 550 ill get the finished pic.
heres the same setup on my yamabob

Zounds!  Great work on the fork-lowers-turned-fork-covers.  Ingenious!

does this look like the flashlight you used?

yup, I figured Id have to rig spacers, or silicon after mounting but they actually slid on no grinding shimming or filler.
I originally got the idea on my tracker using gocart billet peg covers, they worked good but required welding shafts and cost a whopping 12bucks, & I didnt get free battery's.

something a little thicker walled then these flashlight bodies would be cool, these work well so far, but it is prob just a matter of time before they deform and/or the bolt holes spread too much making them rattly and anoying. They look cool and feel good under my boots, I had been running just the inner peg w/ bolts for traction and these are definitely an improvement.

LMK if your into making some, I might hold off anodizing my brake anchor arm and do a batch w/ the pegs.

Sorry for late reply.

I assume you want closed end?

How about a 1/2 round lip on outer edge?

Maybe a bit of a bump or slight raised portion in middle of the end? Dress it up a bit.

How about a relatively close fit, then you can urethane glue them on? or if a screw, a single countersunk, near the pivot should work.. (so you dont see it in use)

I like the idea also but wonder how they will hold up. Those flashlights do seem to be pretty thin.

For the cost, you could almost replace them every year.

I have had mine a few months and a few thousand miles...
I lost one end cap during Rolling Thunder, but have a few replacements so no sweat.
Cheap cool fix
