Well on Firday nite I got my turbo bike outta storage... taped a couple of rags over the inlet of the turbo to avoid any damage (i havent gotten my filters in yet) and went to shift and blew an oil seal around the shift shaft.

So I had to remove the engine !!!! to get the cover off. Only to find out that the shift shat itself busted and ruined the seal.

So I spent the rest of my time fixing my truck because I actually HAD parts for that.

How was your weekend?

And here I thought we had something going!!!

Glass is easy to do.

Get some block of your blue foam and some superglue or gorilla glue.

I like to use an electric carving knife.... makes me feel powerful ;)

Then cut your butt hump and seat out of one giant piece of foam.

Cover in saran-wrap or cellophane of your choice and lay fleece over it. That's right. Fleece. Like in sweatshirt.

Then coat in resin. After that dries lay a few layers of glass over the top of that and resin-ate.

Best way I have found for myself to get it done.

No. No sleet.  But, our sky is a featureless, boring blue, apart for the intense, blinding yellow/white spot moving across it, intent on converting healthy skin into cancerous melanomas.

Further, I'm going to have to endure the constant struggle to shorten that green stuff infesting my yard.  Then there are the blasted birds that keep pooping on my cars.

I suppose, I'll be forced to paint the house soon, as it's now warm enough and dry enough, that the excuses for procrastinating are sounding dubious.  ::)

Sigh.....

When will it all end?

would you rather have a project bike that's not close to running yet, or a project bike that has some mysterious charging problem, so you can get xx miles from home, then it's dead and won't start again... but it runs like a freakin' champ?

have Patience, everything worth having takes time. I've been working on mine for two and a half years, granted I injured my arm and couldn't do anything on it for over a year. But you will get it going soon, and when you do it will be satisfying for short while. Then you will have a few kinks to work out. Have fun.

Mine took 3 years... well... one just sitting in the ex's barn, because no one could help me and I had no idea what I was doing...

one where I did stuff but it was the wrong stuff...

one repairing everything I did wrong and then some...

and now refining and finishing.

Patience, indeed, but very rewarding, eh Spike?  Riding... it's like flying.  you and your machine, your knees pressed to the tank like riding a horse... and nothing else in the whole world.

+1 I had mine for 10yrs before I was able to get it on the path of the asphalt, now it's been two years in the making...Just to have things like my wife stepping on my freshly hammer painted oil tank side cover that was original and cracking it almost in half....Sigh, and somehow it was made into being my fault ??? Because I have everything laid out on the floor next to where it goes because I am reassembly mode, but according to her I shouldn't. Looks like the little woman is not allowed in my garage anymore....
Keep it going Ink you'll be on the road soon, and I will have an updated version of that filter part I gave you this next weekend.
KIt you said it there, and the first part that's the fun of learning it on your own, makes for great stories later.

Well, we had a blizzard, and load of rain. Temperature drop and such, so I haven't gotten to do anything really.
Last night I went and exchanged my battery, because it wouldn't hold a charge. Wednesday, if it's warmer than 50 I'm laying glass again. I'm also mailing off my shocks, seat pan and a bottle of beer. No worries, i'll take pics!
Luder, I need an address.

I read a couple of your threads on the fire. I would've cried. I know I read most of it with my jaw dropped. That really really sucks.  :( Dig you tag the psychobillyqueen?

Luder, there might be a whole lot of weird packaging in with it, just so it doesn't "feel" like a liquid to the postal workers. so, don't freak. haha.

Trimmed the edged of the seat up, going to cut the hinges and stuff from the frame. It's just blocking me from getting a good fit.
Laid another layer of glass, it's starting to look good, had to stop because the weather dropped again, it's been raining ever since. YAAAy!

Isn't there other stuff you can be doing while waiting for the seat pan to be done, like cleaning electrical connections, changing the brake pads/fluid, synching the carbs and getting it running real smooth, etc?

Things I've done: (off the top of my head)
Carbs have been rebuilt, gaskets changed, they are set up to where it will run though, and it does.
Fork oil changed
Tires changed, mounted and balanced
Wheels trued
Air Box modified
Spark plugs changed
Points gapped
Tank cleaned
Turn signals installed
Changed the master cylinder and brake hose, bled system, pads changed.
Chain cleaned, oiled and adjusted
Rear drum cleaned, adjusted
Installed kerker 4-1

Could do while waiting for seat:
Change oil
Rebuild petcock, so i can remove inline filter
Waiting on shocks from HAVOC
Figure out why the front caliper intermitently sticks.
Sync carbs, no gauges available.
fabricate plate bracket

After seat is done:
Upholster
Mount brake light
Figure out how to fix seat to frame  :D
SAND, BONDO, SAND, PRIME, PAINT!

You don't call you dont write....

Starting to think you dont like me anymore.

They are cut. Just waiting on a broken machine to deck them flat. I broke it during set-up. Silly me.  >:(

Everything will be loose because of the excess travel in the shock, but once they are on the bike everything should be golden. I'll use some safety wire to keep them from blowing apart on you. All bonneville speed and #$%*.
