Hooking my voltage regulator 78 cb550
« on: February 26, 2014, 03:03:39 PM »
So I'm going to hook up my voltage regulator that was purchased from Ricks Motorsports here in NH.  Yes I know that Oregon Motorcycle Parts comes highly recommended but this guy is here in NH and wanted to support his business. Called him today and got idea of where all the wires should hook up. The regulator has a 6 gang plug with five wires in it and three other wires.  I'm not going to use the plug and wire it with bullet connectors instead.
    Reg.                    Bike.
3 yellow       -       3 yellow
red          -      hot side starter solenoid
    Green       -        ground
That covers the 5 wires in the gang.
white         -        white coming from alternator
  black         -          blinker relay
  green       -           ground

This leaves the green from the alt.  unconnected.  So that should go to ground.

I was going to connect the green wire to the green from the alt. but he said that it needed to go to ground.   The alternator isn't internally grounded correct?  I read that here somewhere.  Also he said that the red hot should be fuse protected.  It should be already by the fuse box.  Which I'm replacing with a unit from Hondaman.
From the look of the wiring diagram I think these is all correct.

Thanks,
Lucas
