The Oregon bike of mystery...(pic heavy)
« on: March 04, 2009, 10:52:04 AM »
The other day a friend of mine said he saw a CL add about an 78F bike for sale, always on the lookout for a twin disc frontend for my 77K I went and looked. Lucky me it has all the break stuff and some other very interesting tidbits. Well here it is.
78F frame & fork. vin# CB750F-2202549 no title :-\ and the fork springs are out of the front but I do have them.
Older? K engine I think from the carbs and it's not black. engine #CB750E-2055894
A front 7 spoke mag?? Too bad that it doesn't have the matching rear! Anyone know what it is?
The front headlight is kinda interesting in that it says "Vetter" on the back of the shell.
The igniton switch is from some kind of Suzuki part, the key says Suzuki anyway.

The wife wants me to make a table for the living room out of the frame.  She's crazy, but I love her anyway. The breaks are going to find their way on to my 77K, not sure about what wheels I'll have to use. The centerstand is missing and the tabs on the frame appear to be damaged, maybe crash damage? The engine actually runs, with some voltage to the coils it runs poorly but it runs!

My understanding is that the 77-78 bikes have a wider rear swingarm, a different rear sprocket carrier and a different countershaft in the gearbox. It still appears to have the 620 chain and the factory F bike sprockets. How did they manage to put the old K bike engine in and align the chain? I'll pull the front cover when I get a chance to investigate. Or possibly I'm way wrong on all of this... Eldar??

I guess I should say that I did bring it home for the huge sum of $200 bones.

Looks like a bastard! Looks like a 77/78F with a K motor in it. The wheels look a bit different though.

After searching around it appears to be a 72K engine.

Those were the best.   ;)

breaks = brakes  Took me a few minutes.

It never ceases to amaze me...what could the PO been thinking that he'd dress up something that far gone with real expensive grips and black dynocover? And a Lester (I think)  mag, front only.

Maybe the accessories came first and the deterioration later... but I think they usually happen at the same time.

I'm just hoping theres a $200 POS out there the next time I'm shopping.

I would guess that there is a Lester mag (or whatever it is) on a 72 rear only somewhere?? ::)

Good news is I got the bleeder screws out and the calipers off the front. Can I just slip the lowers onto my 77K fork legs or is there something very different in the F bike fork?

Is there a spoked wheel that will accept the dual discs from the F bike?

Should I go with comstars front and rear? I would like to keep the spokes on my 77K but I can't stand that anemic front brake anymore.

Is there a lester mag out there that will use the rear drum of the K bike? I like the mag! ;D

Help!

No centerstand on 1977/8 bikes.

Honda delivered them with center stands as well as side stands.  My F models certainly have both stands.

My '78F also has a center stand. It actually is much easier to get the F on the center stand than my earlier 750s. Just step on the stand and it levers the bike up.

That headlight is out of a Vetter fairing. I've never seen one mounted alone like that. Interesting. The alternator cover is from an F model too.

There are NOS Lesters on EBay now. Search GL1000 I think. I don't know if they would work.

Those wheels wouldn't be out of place on a CB650 Custom, their back mag is totally different to their front.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I know when I bought my 77 750F, the PO said he had removed the center stand to drop some extra weight.  He had thrown it out, so I've never seen it personally.

Congratz on the find PJ!
