Just wanted to make sure you knew that a hydrogen fuel cell couldn't be further from a Hydrogen Fusion bomb.

 ;D

That thing would be a firecracker compared to even a lowly fission bomb. That's assuming of course a lot of unlikely variables were met.

Shhh, you're ruining my negative propaganda ploy.  ;D

I dunno about anyone else but I just can't get into a bike that sounds like it just ran outta gas. No noise!

What a drag.

Keep an eye on the first electric TT which is coming up in June.

One lap of the course and the entries are starting to look good!

Gentlemen, start your engin... er, electric motors! Flag drops, aaand they're off! Hummmm....

... or is that zzzzzzzzzz?  :D

People think there's a problem with animals on the race circuit now just wait until racers go electric. God I hope I'm long in the ground then.

I can't tell that it's running. It's going so slow someone may have just pushed it up to that speed. Looks like it's made out of a shop vac. Gasoline for me please.

Well, the first internal combustion engines weren't all that much faster. It's a starting point. We'll see where the technology goes from here.

Personally, for me, motorcycling is more than just the noise that emanates from the exhaust tip.

When I said I can't tell that it's running I meant that it may not run at all. I wasn't referring to exhaust noise. Going 3 mph on a motorcycle does not require an engine at all. I think exhaust note IS a big part of the motorcycling experience. I don't think a Ducati would be as enjoyable if it sounded like a Hoover. Maybe if I had never been exposed to the internal combustion engine I would think hydrogen cell engines are the best thing since sliced bread.

Of course it is. But following this line of thinking why not exist on a diet of vitamin pills and fiber supplements? Eating is more than just stuffing nutrients down the gullet. It's about smell, texture, and taste.

Riding one of these things would be of some interest, any propelled vehicle could be, but riding this thing seems about as visceral as a video game.

edit: I should emphasize I'm no snob and would drive and ride about anything- at least once.

I think Mattel made a battery powered engine sound handlebar mounted thing. Used 2 D or 2 C batteries. But then you'd have the problem of responsibly disposing of the batteries. Better stick to cards in the spokes.

awww c'mon Bill. It's so...... so...... cute :P

ROFL.

While I'm sure it is a good idea for emissions and all that, it is hardly plausable for the extent of use we get out of motorcycles at the moment.

Not to say that the tech won't work it's way up to that, but I'm sure somewhere there's a little kid who's going to shell out $30k + for one in the future.

Oh well.... such is the advance of technology. Kinda reminds me of air-con in your car.  ;D :P

air-con is a fad.  :P

Kidding aside (no, really!) I'm open to the idea of this tech, or as I like to call it, witchcraft, but the more sterile and isolated from risk our daily life becomes the more we'll cling to 'irresponsible' pursuits. What fun is that without some noise?!

I'm so smart.

Is one of them the Kensington I've read about? Sounds interesting.

Strolling through the web and found this. I've read a brief blurb  a while ago but this is good.

Seriously though, Yes, my Ducati sounds awesome, and I'll admit it. And I just dropped over a grand on a new exhaust for my CB750 SOHC hoping that that will sound great. BUT, taking one of those electric race bikes that are going to be at the Ilse of Man for a high speed spin through the twisties would be just as exciting for me. Noise or no noise.

I just now, reading your post, had this flashback to when I was a kid of 9 or 10 and letting my bike coast down a long hill crouched down to get the most speed. The sound of the wind whizzing past my ears was a rush!

Is there any way I could get a glimpse of this TT event? A site promoting, You Tube, etc...

A quick Google search brought up a few competitors, but I couldn't find any info on the event.
