African Americans...
« on: March 06, 2009, 01:34:01 PM »
or Blacks, etc... just wondering, is anyone else here Black? I know 2 other guys that drive CB's, but they are white. Nothing wrong with that, most of my friends are white. Just makes me think, I rarely see a black person driving a cruiser or standard bike, it's always a sports bike......  I've spoken to a black guy at a cycle shop the other day while I was buying some new gloves. He seemed really cool, but when I told him what bike I rode he looked at me weird and laughed. As he drove off on his hayabusa, it made me think... Maybe I'm an outcast...

You ain't an outcast just be yourself!

I had a mentor growing up, a black man whom I had much respect for.
He rode a Harley for 50 years at least.

Oh yea I just remember this. When I picked up the 750F as we were unloading
it off one truck onto mine a black man pulled up and said he had to come look because
the Honda 750 was the bike that started it all, as far as superbikes go is what he meant.

Tell you the truth, where I live, if there was a black guy on a bike, I think it might make the news. Just not many on bikes here but then a large number are actually refugees from africa. Not all of course but I still cant say the last time I saw a black on a bike. A few chinese but that is expected when I think chinese restaurants outnumber pizza joints and this is a college town!

To be fair, our population is a lot lower. This area is about 200000-250000

I don't even think you could call blacks a "minority" in either Dakota, they are like non-existant!

In So Cal, it seems like a lot of black guys ride Harleys.  Mainly the Road Kings and Ultras.

around here there ain't one black guy in the whole county, its rural, no county around here has over 10,000 people, we have 2 stop lights in ours.  ;DBut soon there will be a bunch of black bikers around here.
They must be giving away black babies at college, the girls all come home with one. ;D
I did see one black dude on a  a harley dresser traveling thru, but he wasn't responsable.
He did wave back, uncommon for a Harley guy.

I took my skills test last June (...I may have been operating outside the law before then...).  There was an older black gentleman there with his son.  The father was on a cruiser (not sure what it was, but it wasn't a Harley, I know that much), and the son was on a Honda 600 crotch rocket.  The father was pretty interested in my '72.  Nice chap, he was.

There is a multiracial biker 1%er club out of Philadelphia (I think...).  'Wheels of Soul' they're called.  I think there's another one in SoCal, but I can't remember their name.

Most folks here were full-face helmets.  Can't tell.
My wife thinks they all look like chipmunks.

I've known several;  One guy has a bigass Harley, one has some kind of Japanese pseudo race bike, and one has a small collection of cool stuff;  BMW /2, MotoGuzzi V7 Sport, Harley Electra Glide, a CB750 in some kind of metal flake- stuff like that.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

One of my friends that I used to ride with had either a 80s CB 650 or a SOHC twin. His nickname was "white chocolate" Because he was half white half black. I've seen a few guys on Harley's here but most stick to there Busas.

I live near and grew up in Muncie IN. When I was in school (in the early 80"s) there were several blacks on standards especially CB's

Mostly sport bikes and Harlys now, There is one older hold out that still buys, sells and deals with these bikes. Last time I stoped in to see what he had there was a 550, 750 and a cbx. But he is always high and I don't like to dicker.

Two years ago I was riding and a bunch of HDs surrounded me. Talkin smack and when I pulled off they followed me in to scenic area. They told me I would never make it off the Mountain. A black sportbike club pulled in. They were admiring my "old school ride". I told them what was up.  The largest one yelled over to the HD guys. "This MFer WILL get down the hill" They escorted me down the mountain and all I could do was wave. I did run into them a few weeks later and thanked them.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?
