Elaborate on the carb rack bar.  I just took mine apart and got to thinking...EVERY bike I've seen has a carb rack whose bar is corroded somewhat.  I'm of the mind that rust is bad on rotating parts, especially those with such a close interferece(?) fit.  Thinking about going to the machinist and having this remade from stainless.

Shouldn't be too difficult/expensive, no?  It's fairly small and only has the two flats, two keyways(correct term?) in it.  If it's cost prohibitive I'll just wait until down the road when I get a lathe.  Would you guys maybe be interested in one if it's not too pricey?

I would certainly be interested.

so the bar itself is broken? not just a tab offof it?

I'm confused.

I have a lathe. I could make one if you sent me the original.

No the bar is good, there is a little crappy aluminum piece that sits in that black frame for the carbs that i put a picture of and that little piece broke off and now is powder coated in place lol, I can drill it out no problem but I don't know if I can find just the piece or if I need the whole bar...

Gotta go to class now, will post pictures afterwards.

Dammit Havoc, I wish I'd known that.  But I didn't want to hijack the thread and start asking for favors from members I don't really know personally.  Either way, I just dropped mine off at the machinist's and asked them to get me a quote for a batch of 1 & 10.  Should know in a couple of days.  I really want a lathe.

Hey guys I just heard back from the machinist, they said it would be $45 a pop if we end up getting 10.  HavocTurbo what do you think?  I'll make a post specifically about this on the main page.

$45 dollars per piece? Are you joking? Dude we could get some hollow stock for ten bucks and cut it up then bore out the middle with a damn drill.

Sounds pretty easy, could you make one and show us how it turns out?  Shouldn't have to drill it, it's solid.

Oh you are talking about the bar, my bar is fine.

I am talking about the two pieces that go on the bar and inside the two holes on the carb 'rack'

Hoopla!!!

No ridges at the top?

Then hone those biatches and slap in some new rings.

As for the bars...

$45 is hardcore expensive.

Buy your stock, or tell me what you want, and I'll get you a price for stock material, and we can go from there.

fastbroshi- or anyone else reading this-

I have a full service machine shop at my disposal. Now while I personally have many of the machines, some of them aren't working.

So if you ever need anything.... don't hesistate to ask. Worst I can say is "Sorry man I don't do that right now."

Okay here is the pictures of the rust.

The weapons in the war against terror, er rust.

Oh but hello, what's this?

I cannot tell if this is corrosion or if it's just in the casting. If it is corrosion, am I screwed or is there hope? Anyone have any advice?

it looks fine, your frame tubing isn't cast. all that junk in the pics looks like surface rust.

just use a filler primer if it bothers you enough.
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

Well ideally I would like it to not brake in half while I am riding it some day because it rusted through. Lol

I am going to send it to HT to have him powder coat it... after I finish busting the rust.

the powdercoater SHOULD sandblast it prior to powder....so don't kill yourself cleaning the frame....just take it to him.
