I bought my K3 new and that's still my main ride. I am lucky though, my 23 year old rides and I get to experience the new sport stuff (GSXR 750 at the moment) I am also unlucky in that he just left a large dealership for other employment and now I have to pay full retail for my parts and that is painful !!

If I pick up an 02 Suzuki Intruder 800, will I be ostracized, abused or banished?

Sold my CB550K3 a few weeks ago and bought a 2001 VFR800Fi-1

No fuel tap.  No choke.  No carbs!

This bike is sooo much fun - and it's supposed to be a tourer(?)

Now I can fix the gearbox in my 500.

Wish I did for a daily driver. Was looking at a Goldwing but who knows. The loan company Option One has tripled my house payment now.

If you here about some crazy guy with a shotgun or cross bow in the news it might be me, unless the wife can work out the re-fi in time.  ;D

I sold my 200X GSX1100G because it was just too boring,
same with the GSx750 Katana. Same reason.
Went back to the CB550/750's,
There's just something about an old SOHC that makes
you feel  the ride more...I think you all know what I mean.

The wife asked me if I would buy another new bike,
I said "..even if I had the $ I probably wouldn't"

Ok guys, I'm gonna catch a bunch of s@#t over this but....... My other scoot is a 2003 Black and Silver 100th Anniversary Harley Fat Boy. Believe it or not but my 1975 750F leaks oil and the Harley doesn't !! That sure as hell wouldn't have been the case in the 70's AMF days of Harley when I bopught the 750. Thats why I have an old Honda and a new Harley. The Harley has been a great road bike so far. It's been in every western state except California so far. This August it's taking me to Sturgis then into Canada from Colorado. I had a 2001 Fat Boy that I got taken out head on style and it took such a good hit I bought this one. Both were dogs until I anti'd up mucho dinero. It ain't a modern sport bike but it's a pretty decent cruiser. Please forgive me.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Now, I just have my '75 CB750F and have come full circle once again. I walk around new bike showrooms.......not much there for me...........

Chad, That's a pretty nice looking ride you've got there. How's it run? I don't really have any
experience with the newer bikes. Newest one I've got is an 80' CB750K. everything else is from a 78' 550K and back to include a 62' CL72. When weather's permitting, give that puppy a ride for me, okay? Later on, Bill

Bill,
Thank you brother.  I'm not the best person to ask either because my previous bikes were: '74 cb550, '84 v45 magna, '69 BSA 441 victor, '86 kawasaki gpz900, and '79 cb650.  Even though, I don't have enough experience with newer bikes to give a properly informed opinion, this motorcycle is the smoothest and most pleasurable ride I've ever had (and the fastest).  The main reason I went with this model is because it struck me as being the modern-day decendant of my earlier cb550 and cb650.  Here in Canada the model name is actually cb900f and I believe that this bike is the logical, natural progression from the earlier fours.  The only thing that I don't like about having a bike like this is there really isn't very much tinkering to do...
That's why I'm trying to find another cb550f - the first motorcycle I ever owned.
Cheers,

- Chad

Is this what they call the Hornet in Europe?  CBR engine in a "naked" frame.

It's amazing how much better that bike looks without all the tupperware on it!  I agree that the modern superbikes are cookie-cutter but maybe that wouldn't be true if they would leave the plastic off.  I can actually see a motorcycle in there.  As for my modern bike... My newley purchased K5 is as modern as I need.  Riding for the pure pleasure of riding... 8) 8) 8)

Chad, I totally agree about your bike, it does seem like it has the older ancestry behind it. Nice bike
and while you may not tinker with it, it does have a nice look to it. You've got a nice group of bikes there, how does the BSA feel being amongst the others? Ever take it out much? Later on, Bill

Correct. The 600 version is very popular in Spain, but has been outsold by the new Yamaha FZ1 naked...

I would love to have many of the new, modern bikes. But it's difficult to justify the expenditure. Just wait 4 or 5 years and you can buy them at half price. They are a bad investment in my opinion, but they will be a good one in some years.

By the moment, I just walk into showrooms to drool. When the salesman asks me wether he can help me, instead of feigning interest I simply tell him "Well, I just wanted to see the new bikes, can I". The answer is always "of course", seems that they don't mind bike freaks going and seeing -I generally don't touch-. If I have a question I ask, and maybe I get one or two brochures.

SteveD,
Yup that't the one.  Hornet in Europe, 919 Stateside, and cb900f here in Canada.  The 599 has actually the best selling motorcycle in all of Europe for the last three or four years.  As Raul said the '06 Yamaha is now taking over as being the choice in the naked class but I have become pretty brand loyal to Honda over the years.  I also bought this bike second hand and got a smoking deal on it.

Cowboy,
If you are talking about the bike in your avatar, I can understand why that would be all you need - beautiful!

Bill,
Actually this is the first time that I have ever been a position to have this much money tied up in a motorcycle so I always had to sell a bike before buying the next.  The bsa was a one of those stories of finding a bike under a tarp in a barn where it had been parked for 20 years.  I bought it for $100 and cleaned it up.  I learned a lot of history, an appreciation for old bikes, and made a little money in the process.  I wish now I would have kept it but I'm sure we've all had thoughts like that.  Just this morning I came to the end of my search and found the current owner of my first motorcycle, the '74 cb550 that I sold 14 years ago.  It is only a 100 miles from my home town and has been parked for the last couple years.  Now all I need to do is see if the guy wants to sell it (for a reasonable price) and if I can convince my wife that we need to buy it... I'm not sure I can even justify it to myself, let alone the Chief Financial Officer  :P

Right now all I have in my CB550, but my future bike plans call for a TL1000R, one of the new YZF-R6's and a VTX1800F.

That ought to do it.  ;D

My 78 CB750F is my first bike.  Most of my friends have sportbikes and I was planing on buying a dumped gixer and give it the ol' street fighter treatment.  but I saw this bike sitting in one of my buddies dads house and I was hooked ever since.  The lines were nice and I always liked the cafe look.  It has come a long way from the king and queen seat and sissy bar, that sh!t had to go.  I's alot different than the bikes you normally would see at a bike night.  I like that individual sense of style. 8)
