Getting tired of thinking... what would you do?
« on: March 09, 2009, 10:04:25 PM »
eBay is making me tired. I have bought two master cylinders so far to finish up my dual disk conversion. The first was off a ZL1000 and looked good but the seller had cut a slot into the reservoir that was not shown in the pics. Don't ask me why. He probably doesn't even know.

The second is off a 91 Katana and looked fine on showing up. Getting the rotors and calipers and hoses all hooked up I filled it with dot3, opened one of the bleeders, started to pump and... nothing. No bubbles. No squishing sounds. No fluid in the eye when I bent over to see if I could see anything happening at all.

It's disheartening dammit. So now I'm in one in the hand 2 in the bush mode. Buy a rebuild kit or get another?

What would you do?

I might have a 90's katana set-up here somewhere.......

Maybe the katana setup is good just the MC is bad?? or theres a hole in the lines? Or it's vapor locked?

Tell me about this vapor lock you speak of...

Everything is brand new braided stainless between the MC and the pipes to the calipers except the brake switch under the headlight which was working fine with the old stock master (which I also rebuilt).

If it was plugged I'd expect it to try and put out an eye when I hit the lever (which is very smooth action BTW).

There's just no sign that anything is happening at all with the MC. It's $30 bucks for a rebuild and $60+ for a brand new aftermarket. Doing the circlip on the stock master has left me not wanting to look at a circlip down a well ever again but I will if I have to ;D

If you're looking for a freshly rebuilt stock MC off a 75K (known to work cause I used it to free the caliper piston) do you want to trade?

This can get messy if you aren't careful.

remove all your lines from the MC.
fill it full of fluid, or half way whichever you prefer.
leave the cover off.

place your thumb over the banjo bolt hole completely sealing it.
squeeze the lever and hold.
remove your thumb and release the lever.

only do this until you get pressure on your thumb. don't pull the lever too fast or it could spray out around your thumb ruining any painted surface it touches and your eyes to boot.

was the MC dry when you put it on?

Nope. There was maybe a 3rd of the reservoir filled when I took the cap off. I'd just assumed it was empty as I'd worked the lever beforehand and no fluid came out so getting it open and finding some fluid in it was a little bit surprising (and should have clued me in).
