Author Topic: Snapped my rear axle...need help w/new one (Read 1918 times)

Well, I just started to remove the axle nut. Didn't seem to be very tight but after my second turn SNAP the axle snapped right where the threads begin. Now I looked at new axles and there seems to be two different part numbers. Anyone now why or which one i would need?

Here are the part numbers, I have no idea what the differences are.

SKU: 42301-300-010 AXLE, RR. WHEEL (Honda Code 0237339)
SKU: 42301-300-020 AXLE, RR. WHEEL (Honda Code 0468942)

77/78 are longer than 76 and earlier..

If you look at the numbers on the list you will notice a large black arrow and if you look up what that is its a supercision history and tells you that the 020 is the replacement for 010.

Also if you bother to feed the part number into the other half of the motogrid site it tells you that that part fits cb500/550/750 to 75

Sorry to sound like I'm #$%*in but this must be the 50th time Ive explained this reference on this site!

No problem, I would advise you to bookmark the motogrid site and try out the part number look up for a few different things, at the very least it means you can look at other, less popular models in the breakers and probably pay less for the part.

Also in 30+years ive have never heard of one snapping before---had to replace em where they rusted solid and had to be cut out, but never broken

Part Number Cross-Reference ("will a xxx from a 750 fit my 400..." etc)

select model and part from the left hand menu.
Copy into right hand search box and a list of all the models that part was used on magically appears!

Looking at that pic with my old engineering head on i would say that its been cracked for a while and definately undergreased.

Appologies if i upset anyone but sometimes you do get fed up of repeating answers and just have to rant!!

My not-quite-so-old-but-nearly engineering head says that "sheared" would be a better description than "snapped".

We all know how easy it is to shear a seized bolt when sufficient force is applied...
