'75 CB550 Electric Problem
« on: March 11, 2009, 08:22:32 AM »
Well, last weekend I did a frame change (changed to a titled frame so I can start riding!) that was mostly successful.  After switching everything over, my electronics don't work...period.  My battery is fully charged, my fuses are in tact and surfaces cleaned, I went through the headlight twice.  I just don't know the right path to troubleshoot something like this.  Where should I begin and what path should I follow? ???

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Double check your fuses.  There may be internal damage you cant see.

one way to test:
With the key on, kill switch on, put the leads of a volt meter across the fuse.  There should be ZERO volts.  If you get a voltage, replace fuse.

2nd way to test:
Pop the fuse out.  Put the leads of an ohm meter (1K or there abouts setting) across the fuse.  Should read read ZERO ohms.

Had a similar problem on my brothers 550, turned out to be the kill switch.

With your volt meter, put one lead on the engine block and one lead on the NEG of the battery.  ZERO volts and your ground is good (good enough to light your neutral & oil lights anyway).  12 volts and Dragon is exactly right!

Turned out to be a bad fuse!  It had no visual damage to the internals, but I changed it out and everything lit up and worked!  This feels so good to have fixed!

Thanks for the replies!
