Hello all from London
« on: March 15, 2009, 11:27:15 AM »
Hi there hondaheads

I'm Bob, from west london, england. 31 years of age, been riding sportsbikes for ten years, never really got my hands dirty before, but a few days ago I picked up something of a basket case of a cb750 for my first project. I've always ridden hondas, love the engines, but I am pretty green in terms of working on them, and hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. I have a very clear idea of what I want to do, and am fully prepared to learn the art of patience. No clear set timeline, just at the stage of clearing out a workspace.

The bike? Its a Y reg (think that means 1983 over here) cb750 and the engine is in boxes. No definitive answer as to why it was broken down, cylinders don't look (to a very untrained eye) marked, although one has a small amount of rust in it. I guess the big clue is that I can find any pistons in the boxes (!). But I don't get how you can have a problem with pistons that leaves no trace on the cylinders? Then again, what do I know.

Anyway, just wanna say, this place looks like a godsend, and I have no doubt its going to make my life a hell of a lot easier over the next few weeks, months, years???

BTW, anyone able to tell me how I can tell the model from the serial number?

Hello Bob.

From your other thread you'll now know that an SC01 was a CB900 over here. They were launched in 79 with the FZ and then went FA, FB, FC with a faired version F2C. I think there was an FD as well.

How west in London are you (I'm in Wokingham)

Drop in at www.sohc.co.uk and chat to the Brits. Use the same username so that we recognise you!

Hey Steve,

Thanks for your reply, yeah, I've figured out what the bloody thing is now. One small step for man...

It looks like its a CB900 fb2. Also its a DOHC, something I hope wont render me unwelcome on these forums!

I'm in Hounslow, near Heathrow airport mate.
Will check out the uk forum, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Does it have a fairing (and what colour?)

There are dohc forums but I've no idea how useful/friendly they are:
www.cb1100f.net (USA)
www.cb750c.com (USA and mostly the Custom models)

Anyways, you're welcome here!

Doesn't have a fairing, and is in a real state. Got it for £100, kinda says it all.
But should be fun though, eh?

I'll say this really quietly so as not to offend, but I dont actually intend to restore it exactly to its former glory. Got something of a customisation in mind. But anyway, thats for the future, first things first, putting that engine together.

Cheers mate, gonna take a look at those other forums too. I'll be needing all the help I can get!
