Today's ' Daily Doofus ' !!
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:15:47 PM »
Watch-out for this one, lads !
I decided that I didn't like my 102 mains as supplied with the Keyster re-build kit (PD 44B carbs) and today decided to go back to the 108's that were in the bike when I got it. The 102's being, i.m.o. just too lean, producing a light gray plug, and a possible over heat now that were facing another Summer etc., blah, blah.
I put back the 108's and the old needles, fired-up and #4 smoked like mad and eventually fouled the plug..luckily #4 float bowl is accessible...everything was perfect in the bowl.
Turned-out that in taking-out the carb. slide I had rotated the carb. bank for some reason and when I dropped the slide back in it was facing the WRONG way with the cut-out section facing into the carb.!!!   There  is no 'keyway' and slider will go in either way quite happily...slide reversed= very rich cylinder !!!
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,
If your sure it's an ignition problem; it's carbs....

You sure it wasn't your ignition?

Oh wait, you said #4, not #3.

Nevermind...

Just thought I'd "slide" that one in there.   ;D

Damn too quick TT I wanted to ask about #3! ;D
That is unusual eh Spanner, all the bikes I've had in the past had a small keyway taht kept the slide in the forward direction.....I guess Honda knew that only discerning owners would buy Hondas' and therefore would be clever enough to figure this out. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Yeah, all the Honda 4 Keihin carbsets I've seen have the keys. But they were devious... two carbs key on the left and two on the right... so you can manage to reverse two or all four.

I can see why you've chosen the 'auto'. ;D Now just concentrate on choosing the right riding position. There are two possibilities. Tip: 1. your nose - it's that 'keyway' thing between your eyes - should point in the same direction as the headlight. 2. Now your hands can grab the shiny bar in front of you. The one at the other end, above the red taillight, is the luggagerack. Riding in that position is not as exciting. Good luck and do send us pics! ;D

Its been awhile since I did my carbs but I do recall the book and people here saying that you can accidently put the slides in backwards. Wouldn't you catch this when the bank is all assembled and you are looking through the venturis operating the throttle??? If not then....when you are bench synching?????

Hey, Delta, while your riding position is supposed to be funny !!, actually you COULD ride an Automatic with one hand on the handlebars and one hand on the luggage-rack behind...HA HA !!    Y'all are just jealous  'cos you can't take-off from a traffic light ONE-HANDED, to the amazement of other bikers and road users !!

Hey, mr.Breeze, I didn't separate the carbs. and had vac. synced them about a month ago, so sync. was not disturbed by taking them off the bike !
