full resto exhaust options, 650
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:56:04 AM »
My exhaust is on terminal rust life support. Constantly having to remove it and it is really starting to show on the pipes. I figure the bike is worth the cash for the exhaust and one step closer to my goal of restoration.

Looking at a MAC exhaust for my 650. Mac only offers a turned out 4-2 system that I absolutely hate for $399. (want the 4-2). I have been in contact with MAC and they can sell me the headers only for $299 but say they do not have any other style mufflers that will fit my appliction. I looked at their replacement mufflers and they offer universal megaphones for $179.50. (is this each or a set of two?)

I'm looking at $478.50 plus shipping.

Are there any other options for mufflers or complete 4-2 systems? I'm looking for mufflers similar to the original honda style. I have heared both good and bad reviews about MAC.

Has anyone ever got pipes coated with polished ceramic? (kinda like chrome) My pipes are dent free, just rusting at the headpipes. Will the coating fill minor pitting? Any reviews on the stuff?

I got a full set of 4 into 2's for about $300 (Kiwi) off Ebay, they were second hand but in great condition and hey it cost another $250 to get them freighted across the Pacific Ocean but they sure made the bike.
A 650 Custom I just sold had original pipes on it but they had been "powder coated" and looked really cool.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Tough call, but if you have a good pipe, get it re-chromed or ceramic coated and then find mufflers to fit.
