Unknown part
« on: March 12, 2009, 02:01:06 AM »
I am rebuilding my engine and am about to install the top case and then I found a small dowel/bush it is 15mm od x 13mm id x 10mm long

I have looked all through the fich but can't seem to find where it belongs. When I dismantled the engine everything went into plastci containers and then I labeled them, this was in the case bolts box.

Can anyone help identify this and where it goes.

Thanks Mike

Did you disassemble your airbox?  I've seen parts that look just like that.  They're used to align the bolt and gasket between the upper airbox shell and it's bracket.  See the pic below (#9).

I will check tomorrow, I think it might be from the oil pump, as you said GK it may be one of the alignment dowels were the pump bolts to the case.

Thanks, for you help guys.

I think GK's got it.  My valve cover had those hollow "alignment dolls".

It's made of steel and the od has been ground or sanded smooth. there is a seem in it so it has been rooled into shape not machined.

That's a bolt-spacer then.  Locating dowels are ground steel tubing or rod, with beveled ends.  Don't worry, it wasn't supposed to be in your engine - somewhere else, hopefully easier to get to.
