Replacement rubber grommets for side covers

was at lowes today cruising through there "specialty" bins. saw the rubber grommets and when "hmm" i wonder... on a hunch i bought the 1-1/8 OD x 5/8 ID, 3/8T grommet. cost about a buck so i got two just incase it didn't work. i replaced the upper grommet facing the front of the bike on my 78F. it's a little tight but the cover is definatelly NOT coming off.

Very sweet..

I've been thinking about how to do this myself. Because while I'm flying around my covers like to flopped around with the slack that the grommets have provided through there wear and tear..

Great find, I'm going to go try and find some tomorrow..

Since it's a tight fit, did you use some grease/lube to slide those nipples in there??

i'm in KC right now so i'll post pics when i return home. i just travelled 200 miles and my covers are still there so that's a good sign.

i'm back. here's some pics





the one on the left is the oem grommet and the new one on the right


i've removed the cover a few times now and it still retains it's grasp. haven't figured out the size for the bottom one. i'll figure it out later

One type of grommet on my goldwing is exactly the same as the side cover grommets on my 1970 CB750K0. Theyre tje 2 oval grommets in the picture.

I I went ahead and found some in the bolts and nuts section at Lowe's, I could only find the size for the bottoms, and it worked out great. Although it may be a little too tight for my weak covers when it comes to ever having to pull them back off, I know atleast that they're not going anywhere.

Either they fall off or break apart when pulling them off....

I'm sticking with the stock part, overtight seems likely to have them crack when you're taking them off.  I've broken 2 this way while trying to be careful...

i'm using LPM's repro covers which are about two times thicker then stock covers so i don't have to worry about cracking them

I have a 78k and the covers are always very tight. I put a silicone grease on the tabs and the grommets so they will slide on and off easier.

I just got off the fence and pulled the trigger on a pair of 750K0 side panels from these guys.  Will report when they arrive.
