Unidentified 500/550 parts
« on: October 16, 2005, 07:08:00 AM »
I'm at the bottom of my parts basket and have but two items in need of identification. What have I got here and where do they go?

the top piece in the pic is the spring clip that holds the air filter into the box. it clips into the back side of the box.

second part is a throttle cable clip. It look's like the clip on the throttle return or push line. The bottom one. The lock nut is right after it.

Not sure Paul is right about the second one as it should not come off the cable, and i have no idea what it is but the top one is definately the air cleaner spring clip

Yes, air filter spring clip.

The lower one is two big for the throttle cable, though it is the same style as one that goes there.

I'm not certain, but when I saw it I "air box" came to mind.  The plastic is protected where ever it is bolted with metal sleeves and washers so they can be tight enough to not come loose yet not smash the plastic in thickness.  This might be one of those washers that spread the load and are also kept from turning.
On my 74 Cb550 it goes between the air box and the air plenum plastic top front.  I didn't take it apart to verify the entire profile though.

Hummm... stands to reason these parts are airbox related since that is the one assembly I'm missing a substaintial number of parts. All I have is the bucket that holds air filter and fasteners that attach same to frame.

thanks, guys.

I  just went thru the same scenario with my 550 missing some of its intake tract parts. I installed that second washer/part on the outside BOTTOM  mount of the "plenum to air cleaner box" bolt, with the "flat" pointing up. It seems to fit in that location anyway, and I reasoned like two tired, that it was there to spread the load of the mounting bolt. I aint sure if I'm right either, but again, it fit there. ???
