Tune up weekend!
« on: April 03, 2009, 07:03:43 AM »
Well I'm home for the weekend and plan to do all the things in the maintenance section of the manual!  I finally have all the tools including the angled feeler gauges and a spark plug wrench that will fit in the head.  Thanks everyone for your previous advice on these tools!  My plug wrench came from crc2online.com and was much cheaper than an oem but similar in style.
When I adjust the cam chain, does the engine need to be warm or cold?  The manual says valves are adjusted cold, but doesn't specify cam chain.
I look forward to dialing the old girl in.  Riding season is here!

I don't think it matters warm or cold other than you need to stick your hand under the carbs to the back of the cylinder block.  A problem if its too hot.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

what angled feeler gauges did you get? I have had trouble finding a .08mm and I need one to do my exhaust valves.

I got a motion pro angled feeler gauge from Z1.  At the local auto stores I couldn't find .002 and .003 angled.  I guess it's a tighter tolerance than most cars use?  Anyway, Z1 also has the size you need:
