Throttle Cable drag
« on: March 15, 2009, 05:59:11 PM »
I've installed some new A & B throttle cables on my CB350F.  I think I have the linkage routed right but there is drag in the cable which keeps the throttle from closing when it is released.  Is there a way to lube the cable? Or is there something else I am missing??

Hi, If they are brand new,I myself always lubed them. Are yours brand new? If so make sure they are not being kinked,Try to keep the cables in smooth curves as possible, (2) With the cables unattached to the carbs or unattached to the hand grip, see how smooth the grip turns,It may need lubed on the handle bar. Look where they attach to the handle pipe to make sure they are not unwound a little from when you screw the cable to the lower switch plate housing. I hope maybe this might help you.   Head

I ran my cables about every different way possible until I found just the right spot that didn't kink up on me.  I also shot some lube in there that did help.

Yeah they are brand new.  How do you lube the cables inside the sleeves??

One way is to tear off the corner of a baggie ,stick the top end of the cable through it and wrap a rubber band around it,to seal it so the oil doesn't drain out and down the out side of the cable and hang the the bag and put some oil in it,let it siphon though it! On go down to a motorcycle store and buy a cable luber, with a aerosol can of cable lube.
Which is the best way.    Head

This stuff is graphite in solvent, the solvent evaporates and leaves dry graphite. Oil attracts dust. I used this on my 500 8 years ago and the cables are still working very smooth with one application. It is damn good stuff.
