Vote for your favorite SOHC4 for April '09
« on: March 16, 2009, 10:01:45 AM »
SOHC-FOUR motorcycle of the month rules:

1.   the SOHC4 motorcycle must be owned by the forum member (we’ll take your word for it)
2.   user must be nominated by another member, no self nominations
3.   a nomination must be made, seconded and accepted within the allotted timeframe (if you do not accept a seconded nomination by the 15th of the month, you/your bike will not be included in the contest for SOHC4 of the month)
4.   please refrain from topics other than motorcycle of the month within these particular threads
5.   if you nominate another user that has multiple motorcycles, state which one you would like to nominate
6.   the motorcycle must be a Honda SOHC4

HOW IT WORKS:

1.   monthly nominations will begin at the beginning of the month and run until the 15th
2.   from the 16th to the end of the month a poll setup will be used to vote
3.   users will not be able to view the results until the contest has ended each month
4.   the user with the most votes wins bike of the month

Now... let's get to it!   :)

volkswagendan...

loonymoon...

beta1042...

sorry, shenanigans... you did not accept... i'm sure you'll be nominated again soon.   ;)

Sorry..... well not really that sorry that I'm in Switzerland right now on a business trip... first time overseas..., but can't get any updated pics for awhile.  Instead I'll just link you to another post I have in the registry and give you a brief summary.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=33548.180

Sorry, I wasn't smart enough to do a build thread for this.  Definite lapse of judgement there.

Purchased the bike back in summer 2005 for $75.  Bike was in rough shape.  It took about 10 minutes of sweating and kickstarting to get the thing to remotely run.  But hey, at least it would run.  Once running there were no working brakes or really all the parts there to even try to use the brakes so no test ride.  The tank had a naked lady on it in a poorly airbrushed paint job with Romero painted on the sides.  Tank was painted in place and all of the bike parts were painted black.... even all the exposed wires were painted black.  Yeah, this made trouble shooting electricals a fun time.  Rebuilt the front forks.  I had to get a new front brake master cylinder and hose.  New rebuild kit for the rear.  Rear tire was shot, seat was recovered with the PO's old favorite leather jacket.  The inside lining was showing on a portion of it.  Bungee cords held the seat it in place.  Tank was and still is held in by gravity and my leaning on it.  I made a rear composite fairing.  Made the mold from home depot foam, bondo and latex paint.  Had an acquaintance from work in our interiors department (aircraft company) upholster the seat.  Which by the way is rather comfortable.  Added the clubman bars and of course cleaned the carbs and everything else that was covered in grease and grime.

Next up on the agenda:
Install new steering bearings (have them new in box), need new headlight (reading up on how to update from the old sealed beam... suggestions welcome), speedo and tach are just for show, tach cable is broken and speedo has never worked.... looking into electrosport all in one.  New rear shocks. Moved to Georgia several months back and haven't readjusted the carbs and jets from 5k ft to 60 ft.  Plan on doing that when I get home.

I love this bike and really love working on it.  My friends ride sport bikes and I really want one also.  I have thought many a times about getting rid of this bike to help pay for a new one, but I've since seen the light and can't in my right mind think about selling it anymore.  It is my first bike and I have learned so much from it.  I'll be around.

All very nice bikes.  Looneymoon's and Hush's are both amazingly clean restorations.  As my name suggests, I lean toward the cafes, so I'll have to go with VWDan's.

Just wanted to add: That I voted for Volkswagendan's simply because I appreciate really good builds..which I think his appears to be.  The wrapped pipes almost put me off..to Looney's though (I don't like wrapped pipes on street bikes..even if Cafe's..sorry).

Looney's been in the running a few times now..I guess.  A really nice, clean little bike..and I think it will win BBM one of these days. But..personal preference again..usually directs me to the bigger displacement bikes.

All in all though..these BBM polls are presenting some very nice bikes..ANY of which I'd rather have than a Harley or HD look alike anyday.

Mine's not a restoration - just a preservation! ;)

Only a day to go until it's not mine any more though - it's now been bid over the reserve on ebay. I wonder how much it'll go for??

Vw. Nice gesture.   :)

LM has (or had) an excellent example of a SOHC Honda.
A well preserved example no doubt, but the selection of BOTM must be allowed to run its full course.
I wish each and every one the best of luck, but the voting public will be the ultimate judge.

Good Luck

Hi,

Nice bikes all... My vote goes for Loonymoon for two reasons: first because I think it would be a nice good bye to be the bike of the month, and second because I like the classic bikes (mine is also that style).
I must admit VWDan's is beautiful (maybe the pipes I would prefer wrapped in black...) but my vote is for the CB350.

Congratulations you all for your bikes.

Salvatore.

Thanks Salvatore.

There are some descerning bidders in the UK. My CB350f Just sold for £2101!!!!! :o :o

That just goes to show how difficult they are to come by in the UK. Particularly one as nice as mine!

:'( :'( It'll be sad to see it go. Apparently the winning bidder already has one CB350F anyway.
