2 out of 4 don't squirt.....
« on: March 16, 2009, 04:01:41 PM »
My bike ran all sluggish today ( O.K., smartalecs, I know it's a 750A !! ) and I was dreading removing the carbs. again, making it a multi-cleaning cleaning !
Anyway after airbox removal I twisted the throttle and observed that #1 and #3 accelerator pump nozzles don't squirt...my question is that the nozzle jet looks like it may press down and out of the carb. body (to clean it )...anyone attempted this ?? Carbs are PD 44's.

I do remember someone here pulling the squirting nozzles out for cleaning but I have never tried it.  Why not remove the rubber tubing that interconnects the nozzles on the carb bodies (rubber tubing running between the carb bodies) and spray some cleaner through the nozzles? Should be easier and less likely to do permanent damage.

Thanks, Eurban, the bottom line is carb. removal avoidance !!! Anyway I will for sure try to squirt cleaner thru' hose as you suggest..not sure..the jets look to be almost 'molded' in there..I will wait for some more opinions..see if anyone has tried it....!

OK it's 22.37 Tuesday night here right now which probably makes it about 10 am in the USA/Canada.
Not sure if your address is Nashville Tennessee or Dublin Ireland?

I have PD 41s with accel pumps.  It had the accel pump squirters plugged or diminished.  I felt it might be too easy to damage those posts, for which I have no source of replacements.

I did not remove the posts.  I made four small reservoirs out of various diameters of stacked tubbing.  I then plugged the pump outlet hole (squirter jet in-feed) with (something).
Filled the reservoirs and the tube/rail to the posts with canned carb cleaner.  Came back in two hours and used the aerosol canned pressure to back blow (using layer tubing) from each of the post outlets toward the pump outlet at the carb body first, and then from the in-feed to watch for squirter exit, each in turn, with the other three plugged with some tubing.

I installed the accel pump on the bowl, filled it with gas and installed it onto the carb bank (held in a bench vise).  After the pump primed and the tube rails filled with gas, I had all the posts squirting the same volume.

Warning.  I wear glasses.  Which kept carb cleaner out of my eyes while fitting up tubing to pressurize the passages.  (sometimes the tubing blew off under aerosol can pressure, with random directionality.)  Note: eyes are ALWAYS in the random direction to damaging chemicals.

I like glasses better than eye patches, 'cept on Halloween when my timbers shiver.

Wow, you set my brain-cogs whirring to grasp your explanation of what you did , TT !!
I think I got it, tho'....I will try to rig-up a method to soak the nozzles/posts and then flush them with c.c. squirt can the other direction...I guess their not coming out of the carb. body !

Oops!, thank you for your ideas....
