Are all SOHC Front brake parts the same?
« on: October 17, 2005, 12:58:13 AM »
Hiya All,

I am attempting to collect a few bits for a twin disk set-up and am wondering which parts are interchangeable between the 35mm fork SOHC models (cb500/550/750). Can the calipers, disks, caliper mounting gear etc be swapped between all three models? Would make the search a little wider!

Thanks,
Ben.

Ben, other than a bolt or two the 500/550 set-up is completly different than the 750K/F1 front brakes. The 750F2 brakes are unique to themselves.

As previously said but with a bit extra
400 discs are unique
500/550 four + 500 twin discs are same
all 750 discs UP TO F2 are same
Earls 750 calipers unique
400/500(t & F)/550 are same 750 looks similar BUT the mounting bolts are farther apart

Tell me what bike and i will be be able to give better details!

Thanks All.

My aim is to gradually collect parts for a twin disk setup, to swap between both my cb350K4 racer and my 400/4. So, I need to work out which fork sliders, fork tubes and triple clamps (as the base) would allow me access to the most parts. That is, calipers, disks and mounting hardware.......

I figure 750 forks would be the best base, but from memory, the 500/4 fork tubes are chrome all the way to the top? Also, I need to keep the whole setup as close to 1972 (or before) as possible to comply with race class regulations............

Any more hints?

Thanks.

500 four forks are not chromed at the top as its inside the fork ears ALSO 500 does not have the fittings on the rh slider for a caliper. What you need is a 550 front end COMPLETE (dont forget 400 only has an 18inch front wheel---all 550 are 19 AND i think the fork tubes are smaller in diameter) PLUS a second caliper and disc along with a Goldwing master cylinder. If you email me direct i have a word document on how to complete with pictures of a modified speedo drive
