Another old Honda about to be back on the road...
« on: March 08, 2009, 07:30:04 PM »
Well, here it is.  Not a show bike by any means.  Started out as a parts donor in the company of two others.  I just started putting leftover parts on it.  I'm sure it wasn't cost effective but I did it.

- Tank from a guy in PA
- New tires from Motorcycle online store
- Rims from Boulder cycle salvage
- Front fender and headlight from someone here
- seat from Craigslist in central PA
- brake lines from an online sale of 400F parts (saw a link here)
- kickstand from another parts bike (no wonder it leaned more than I was comfortable with)
- registration (for title) courtesy of International Title service
- top end gasket set from eBay
- misc deals from local Honda store

... and big lesson learned about why you don't have a drink sitting next to you while using steel wool...

Still has an oil leak somewhere around the oil pump.  I replaced 4 seals on it already, dang what's left?

could the leak be the top cover on the pump that honda dont supply "O" rings for?

Great job!
Saving and re-running a bike as special as the CB350F is always worth the effort, IMO. It's an excellent commuter bike, making it useful in these times, if nothing else. I hope to do one like it, someday soon. Right now, I'm doing 2 CB750K3 bikes, so maybe it will finance my (future) Baby Four?   :D

I know... I know.  I have a grab bar that needs welded around the taillight mount but the wife says the "catapult" stays.  She actually wants to ride it with me and she's afraid she'll fall off the back.  Getting her involved is crucial to the success of my "I need another (bigger) bike" initiative.

I'm working on one of these scenarios as well.  Little bit at a time I say.

Yep...  Nothing like getting plates and making it legal.  It's first ride on the road on probably 20 years was to DMV.  I was praying it would get me there and back.  Minimal hassle with my Alabama registration from ITS Titles, but I did feel compelled to say "You know Alabama doesn't title things that old" after she stared at it for a minute.  The only thing I got dinged was not registering it right after I got the paperwork.  They weren't satisfied with my, "you wouldn't have wanted me to ride it over here with the tires that were on it" remark.  That was a $10 hit.  It was rather expensive getting it registered in my state, I paid like $80 altogether!

On an added note, I noticed my compression is up to 150 psi (cold) across all 4 cylinders now compared to 115 or so (cold) before that 15 mile ride.  Still working float level and mixture issues but being able to legally ride it on the road is making those tasks way more manageable.  It idles great and seems to have more power than my '73 but it hesitates a lot.  Better if filter is removed (mentioned in another thread somewhere)...

... and someone PLEASE have mercy on me and give me a decent set of side covers!   :D

*edit*  And oddly, my speedometer is slowly coming back to life.  Working closer and closer to actual speed, milage works.... weird.   :o  I knew I should have told DMV it was 5000 actual miles....
