Lemon Juice carb boil?
« on: March 17, 2009, 07:52:27 PM »
I recently heard of people boiling their carbs in a pot of lemon juice.  This sounds like a great idea, but does it eat the rubber too?  I was going to take off the bowls and floats and drop the carbs in there.  I know on there are still some rubber parts and i dont want to ruin them.  Has anyone tried this?

that's how I always clean the carbs...........mixture of 1/2 lemon juice and half water.......gotta do it outside though.....the OL will NOT be happy if you stink up the kitchen......the agitation of the boiling water plus the lemon juice is real acidic...........works great......BUT....I take em completely apart to do this............boil em for about 20 minutes then dunk em in plain water to rinse then dry eveything out good with a blow nozzle..........

Lemon juice is a very old natural cleaning product, I would guess it is perfectly safe for cleaning anything.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

My only concern was that it might hurt some rubber parts....i am just trying to figure out a way to clean them without taking apart the rack of 4 :P

Would you recommend distilled water?

I wouldn't do it unless completely disassembled. Lemon juice is an acid and you wouldn't want any residual acid left in the shaft pivots and other critical places. It will also wick into any installed screw threads and you could never rinse it out of these places?

I doubt if it would hurt rubber or plastic as long as its not too hot, but you have to be able to rinse it 100% or its still active and at the very least will cause corrosion in threads and whereever its left behind.

Some poeple would try it but not me, .. there's only one right way.
