If I had been on a bike...
« on: March 20, 2009, 04:36:16 PM »
A fellow in a big Infinity ran a stop sign late this afternoon and tagged me on the driver's side door and rear quarter panel. I saw him out of the corner of my eye as he came through the intersection, just after a car that was headed in the opposite direction from me, and swerved to my right but he was on me too fast. I called the police, but didn't detain any potential witnesses. My shoulder is sore and my neck hurts but I'm OK. If I had been on a bike I would have been dead as a door nail. I don't think my car is totaled, but the door post appears bent. I just spent $800 to have new front struts and an alignment on Wednesday.
My point is, this is the start of the riding season for many of us. Let's be careful out here, huh?

Alive but really mad,
Ben

Man... I hear what you're saying.  I got blasted by a drunk driver on Jan. 1, 2008 at about 2:00 AM.  If I had been on my bike... (of course it was in the middle of a blizzard in Michigan, but still...).

I really get some close calls on my scooter (a Ruckus BTW).  Dudes see me on that thing and think it's some sport or something to try to scare the shi'ite out of me.

That is a great reminder that we really need to anticipate what these drivers will do. Glad you are OK.

Good to hear you're alright.
Yep, assume everyone at every intersection/entrance will pull out in front of you on a bike.
If they don't see a car or truck, a lot of times they don't see you, period.
