Any special goop recommended for installing exhaust?
« on: March 25, 2009, 05:42:21 PM »
Is there any spacial sealant, balm, or potion needed on the exhaust flange / pipe junction when installing pipes on a 750 K3?

Like RTV or anti-seize...

Or is it just straight up install the gasket > flange > pipe > clamp > tighten ?

No goo!  Just fresh exhaust gaskets, make sure everything's square before cinching down the fasteners, and don't loosen once you've tightened.

PS you got the old gaskets out, yes?  Just checking.

Support the pipes at the rear end, but don't fasten them to their hangers, so that the flanges are square against the ports at the front.  Tighten front, then mount the rear hangers.

The PO had some putty jammed in around where the pipe abuts the outside of the flange...

Hard to get it off completely  >:(

I'm anticipating an exhaust leak  >:( >:(

They're in there, you just didn't see them because they're squashed flat, covered with soot, and blend in with the exhaust ports.  If they weren't there, you'd know by the sound and you could feel the exhaust pulse leaking out around the flanges.  You probably could use a new set, though.
