'78 SuperSport Cam (stock) specs?
« on: March 18, 2009, 02:26:58 PM »
Anyone know what the stock "F2" cam specs were (advertised lift and overlap) ?  I was thinking about upgrading to a .36 lift with 280 degree duration; but, I wonder how much "hotter" that is than the original cam?   :-\

I've done searches but can't seem to find the data.

Only thing you'll see is cam timing. Intake opens 5 BTDC closes 40 ATDC Exhaust opens 40 BBDC and closes 5 ATDC. Does this calculate out to 225 degrees duration?? I have never seen lifts quoted by Honda. Many variations of the 750 cam from Honda too. Unless you are the original owner there is no way to say with any certainty what cam it actually is neverless what it's specs are. Buy the cam and compare lobe heights.

The F-2 cam has the 'broken band' cast in.
F-2 cam specs (as measured), it supports the service manual says:
Lift: Int. .318", exh. .302"
Duration: 225 deg @ .040" lift
Overlap: 10 deg @ .040" lift
Lobe Centers: 107.5

The F-2 has 10 degrees more overlap than K-8 (which has 'zero' @.040) but I don't know about other years.

If you're thinking of a bigger cam with stock pistons, check the cam manufacturer's recommendations first, they should tell you if it has enough valve pocket clearance. I highly doubt the cam you're referring to will bolt in, but it should produce some great midrange power.
