GL1000 case splitting

I have all the bolts out and was hitting it and got a little to close to an area i should not of hit. Well the left case is now ruined.
Are these that hard to separate?

Not unless a bolt is still in there
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

That does seem to help if all are out.
cases are split.
and bottom case can be repaired.

I know it's a yamaha but I can't split the cases on a 1983 XV750 and ALL the bolts are out. It seems yamaha used some sort of sealing cement in the factory and these haven't been apart since. I've tried about everything and still no joy. Any thoughts? ???

You need the Crancase tool to Split the XV 750 and 1,000 and put it back together as i remember from the Yamaha course i went on way back when.

Also some funny thing about tightening Big End bolts if i remember right

Bryan - is that the one that bolts to the crankcase and effectively pushes on the crank end to use it to separate the cases?

From memory Yes mate, I didnt get to actualy do the job just watch the Yamaha tech do it whilst somebody else droned on about the relevant bits.
The main bits i remember are:-

Oil filter is same as SR500 but fits oposite way round and will wreck the cams if fitted wrong

750 & 1,000 rotate oposite ways

Very special procedure for tightening Big end bolts

Early 1,000 had head gasket oil leak troubles and the "modification" kit was two new barrells and heads with associated gaskets

Cheers Bryan - I don't wnat to disturb too much - just get the cases apart for a darn good clean. I'm hoping to get the home made crank pusher made this weekend and have a pop!

I made a rotor puller out of a 5" diameter 15mill thick piece of steel and it worked a treat so I'll try and adapt that I think...
