Oversized Intake Valves or Superflow Valves
« on: March 30, 2009, 06:40:51 AM »
I am trying to decide whether to go with oversized intake valves and stock exhaust valves, or go for a full set of Cycle X superflow valves.

I want to get some opinions on these two mods.

The OS valves are obviously OS.  They increase flow by increasing the flow diameter.

The Superflow valves have a reduced stem diameter and are polished and bla bla bla.

What I want to know is if the reduced stem diameter really has that much of an affect on the flow.  It doesnt seem to increase the cross-sectional area of flow that much.  How does this compare to OS intake valves?

My gut says that the OS valves will provide a bigger bump in flow and performance.  One set of OS valves is about the same cost as a full set of Superflow valves.  And since my exhaust valves are fine, it's a toss up in terms of cost.

Anybody have experience with these setups?  What's the verdict.

Thanks.

The OS intake will pull much more air. The throat should be 90% of the valve diameter for the best  CFM increase. There really isn't much difference in flow between the necked down stem and normal stem. The necked down stem weighs slightly less.

Correct. The necked down stem is only for weight. Be sure you have someone install the oversize that knows how to do it.

Thanks for the info guys.

So the smaller stem diameter is just for weight savings.

How important is that weight savings?  Ken says 30 grams less.  Has anyone had an upper end failure due to weight strain?

Are the OS valves the same weight as stock ones or are the heavier?

It's not 30 grams less per valve. I have set of cycleX intakes as well as a set of Kibblewhite OS intakes. I can compare them to stock and post it later.

Yeah, it's 30 grams total.  I think im going with the OS valves anyways.
