maybe someone knows
« on: March 19, 2009, 12:58:52 PM »
So I for the past few days, there have been big changes to my K8. I put new handlebars on (Superbike), put a dyna-s ignition in and replaced the headlight bulb. In the process, I f**ked up the connections to the starter button, especially the black wire, which soldered back together this morning. Now the starter works and so does the headlight. Problem is, now my taillight/brakelight isn't working. Here's the funny thing: when I connect the parking light leads in the bucket, (if you're in Europe you may know what I'm talking about), and turn the ignition to "P" the taillight lights up, so I know it's not the bulb. I tried tracing some of the connections, but I'm new to the wiring harness on the CB750. I also don't know if the taillight wasn't working before I messed up the starter button, or what. So what should I look for? The dyna is hooked into the harness, where the contact plate was, and the red wire runs from near the black/white wire near the coils, to the connection by the oil tank.

It might just be best to run a new wire to the tailight from a conveniet switched positive and be done with it.  Later, in the distant future, you will be cursed at and called that stupid previous owner that added those ____ wires.

well, I do know that the taillight was working, I just don't know when it may have stopped. I ride mainly during the day, so it's hard to tell if the taillight is on or not. Headlight works fine now, too.

something new: the rear brake switch works, it lights the bulb, but the front brake switch won't. The tail light won't light up still.

Sounds like some wires popped or got pulled out, in the headlight shell.

Yeah,

I went through with a test light and checked the front brake switch where the black lead comes into the bucket. It didn't have a good connection there, so I moved it to another black-wire female connector. The taillight was apparently not hooked up either, so I connected a brown/blue wire to a black lead, and that solved the problem. Now I have a taillight, brakelight, and my headlight works too.
