Hello from Macon GA - 1972 CB350F
« on: April 08, 2009, 12:42:20 PM »
Hello All,

I recently purchased a 1972 CB350F in a package deal with a friend who got a 1973 CB500.  This is my first bike and first project, so I have a lot to learn.  My friend has more knowledge than me, but this will be a learning experience for us both and I am very excited about it.  I was only interested in getting an early 70's Honda, so now that I have one, its time to get it up and running.  Im very glad to have found this site; from my initial perusing of the forum, I have seen that this will be one of the best resources available to me as I learn more about my bike and get it into shape.

My bike is 20 miles away until I can build a storage building at my house (which I will do in the coming weeks).  The bike has compression, but Ive only been able to check it out one day... I noticed these apparent problems -
--Rust in the gas tank (plan to acid wash and "Kreem")
--needs new plugs and wires
--missing start button (found straight form Honda for $7)
--right brake seems to be much to tight (master cylinder problem?)
--missing air cleaner (already ordered OEM)
--split in seat (been looking at covers, but not sure how good they will look)
--flat tires (dont know how long they have been that way or if they are salvageable)
--missing speed/odometer  (so I dont know the mileage, from the shape of the bike I would think it would not be very high)

Im sure that there are more problems and I am already planning on having the carbs rebuilt (or attempting it myself if I learn enough).  My buddy's is a missing a few more items

I will be spending the next few weeks learning as much as possible and trying to diagnose my problems... my friend and I are both hoping to be riding by June 1st.

I will be searching the forums to help me but I would be thankful for any suggestions.
Thanks,

Jake
