what happened 12 years ago? how long did your bike sit?
« on: March 21, 2009, 06:59:01 AM »
I was around 15 years old then so I don't really know.
Did something happen in the early to mid 90's where everyone stopped riding their bikes?

The reason I say this is, I got my Russian military bike in '06 that sat since '94.
The Cb750 I picked up in '07 was sitting in a garage since '95.
One of my friends got a cb750 that also sat for 12 years.
Dietzd1008's bike sat for 12 years.
And Inkscars bike hadn't been ridden in the same curious number of years.

Any ideas?
I set up the poll for 20 clicks per user, in case you have more than one bike and feel like clicking alot.

I was a sophmore in high school. I really don't remember seeing alot of people ride bikes around that time.

Maybe there was a zombie holocaust and you couldn't ride or else you'd be exposed!  :o

I looked at a 1975 CB450 yesterday that had last been registered in 94.
Might be coming home with me if the price gets a lil better if I don't take the dudes 1980 XS650 that's half bobbed right now....

not enough options there.....

My first 650 had sat since '87 or so, so about 20 years for that one, nearly 25 on the other '79 I bought (parts bike, unfortunately that frame never saw the road again...)
One of the 650's sat only 9 years, but the 750 I had had sat over 20 years(since '83/'84) bought it in 2008.

It's not closed. You set it to run for ever.

BTW: did you realise that you have allowed each member 15 votes? (oops, that's given it away now...)

oh... its probably the lack of ability to change vote that makes it seem closed.

73 with 18000 miles, you do the math. I'm pretty sure it sat for some amount of time.

The tags that were on my cb650 when I bought it last year expired in 88, my xv920j virago was parked in dads shed in 94 (by me ironicly) after he bought his HD.
1980 cb650c first bike i owned now the wife's ride.           1982 xv920j virago, bike i learned to ride on rescued it from a 13 year coma (sitting in the shed) now she runs beautifully and rides like a dream.

My red 1970 KO sat from 1990 until I found it in July 2007.  17 years is a long time to hide this nostalgia...but I guess in 1990 it was not nostalgia yet.  ;D  The gold K1 in my avatar sat from around 2000 until I started it up May 1, 2009.  Just think of all the bikes that must still be in hiding....yikes!!! :o

I voted "too long." Here's my tale of woe. Second owner of a 750 K0, bought in '74. Not great original shape, but OK. Rode it until '82 including some fairly long trips. Life got in the way and I put it away for the winter and didn't get it back out for 22 yrs.  :o When I retired I decided to try and get it running. I did. Then it was start returning it to stock shape, which I am, but a long work in progress as they say. It's been humming going on 5 years since the "resurrection."    [knocks on wood].  ::)
