Is this a 750F head?
« on: April 08, 2009, 06:19:20 PM »
This the head from my '78 750F3. This is the first F model I have torn down. Somehow I was expecting the valve pockets to be deeper and more hemispheric than this one looks to be. The engine has been torn down by someone before. I'm wondering if they put it back together with more readily available parts from a different model. Anyone?

I haven't even started to evaluate parts yet, Mike, This sucker is so rusty inside that it is a bear to get it apart. The cylinders are a mass of rust. I doubt the sleeves can be saved, even with a big bore kit. I can't see enough of the pistons yet to know what shape they could possibly be in. When I pulled the clutch to install it in a K2 engine, though, it was practically pristine. It works exceptionally well, too, in my F3/K2 Frankenbike. The inside of the lower case looks sweet and the oil that was still in the motor was still clear and slippery enough that if I found it in one of my other bikes I wouldn't change it.

Every one an adventure.
