« on: March 22, 2009, 04:26:37 PM »
hey guys so i bought new bridgestone spitfires today a 130/90h-18 for the rear and a 100/90h-19 for the front they will arrive on Friday and found a shop to mount and balance them for 70 dollars as long as i remove the wheels and reinstall them is there any tags  in the tips and tricks forum that would explain easiest way to remove rear wheel on a 78 CB550k as the front is a piece of pie so can someone supply me a link please? Also has anyone put this size combination  of the spitfires on their 550 that has any input good or bad as to how the bike and ride was affected?

Pull out the axle cotter key then loosen the big axle nut. you may have to hold back by sticking a round screwdriver or pin through the other side. Remove the brake actuator nut and the round part in the lever. also the brake strut nut and let the strut hang. Loosen the axle adjuster nuts and bolts on the rear of the axle. Swing them down and push the rear wheel foreward. Now pull the chain off the gear and rotate the wheel to get the chain out of the way. Remove the blocks behind the axle and pull the assembly out the back. Pull the axle out and remove the brake noting the order of assembly. Sometimes the axle wants a little persuasion. Reverse for installation. When you adjust your chain put the bike on the wheels and sit on it to re-check the tightness, it will be different than when on the stand. If you are in doubt leave the axle in and let the shop remove and re-assemble the brake. Your results may vary. ;)

I think the 78 has a closed end swing arm which means you have to completely remove the axle nut and pull the shaft right out. If it has the 4 exhausts this means removing the shock lower mountin bolts to get clearance to get the bolt out.

Take carefull note of where the spacers go.

? how are you holding the bike up with both wheels out
