Topic: How to remove corroded brake bleed nipple

Thanks for the responses in advance

Have recently purchased a 76 750f1, front disc brake bleed nipple was already broken off just above the main brake body, and it is very rusty and corroded.

after disassembling the caliper all appears internally ok, but to now have a working brake i need to bleed the system.

how dio I get this "*&%$^" thing out?? any suggestions appreciated. I have got a replacement nipple to use when I have the old one out.

The only way i know of is to buy a "snap on" straight fluted stud extracter  that you hammer in to a parrallel drilled hole. These are not cheap and dont try the tapered easyout they dont work and usually break to make it worse. What you can do instead is fit flexi lines with a banjo at the caliper end and get a banjo bolt with bleed nipple in it. Easy(ish0 to get here in UK dont know about elswhere

The price of the extracting tool will probably exceed the price of a used caliper. You can always try to extract it later when you can borrow the extracting tool. Heating the caliper would also work.

Check out what they say about removing bleeders on the Speed Bleeder website (scroll down a little).  I know you probably don't have speed bleeders, but I thought it was kinda informative & it has a couple of good suggestions.

PB Blaster and let it soak for a while.   Then drill it out.  Start with a small bit and then exchange for a larger bit and go in reverse slowly. 

You can PB Blaster it a few times and keep it soaking if you want to.  The stuff is great for loosening stuck bleeders.   Used it many times with car bleeders.  worked like a charm.

Um, you CAN bleed the brakes without using the caliper bleed nipple.  It just takes a little longer.  All the air will come out the tiny hole in the master.

Don’t bother trying to get the snapped one out, I got an almost new calliper for 3 euros off ebay and put the old one in the rubbish bin 

Same problem with my bike (also a '76 F), and same solution. Only the one I got off of ebay was a little bit more expesive ($30).

I tried the stud out, and, as mentioned above, they broke... all three of them that I tried. Then I tried drilling it out. And broke two drill bits... Then I took it to my father who works in a machine shop and had him get it out. His work was mostly successful, except that he just could not get the new niple to seat properly.

That's when I jumped on Ebay.

currently the piston side now has an easy-out stuck in it.. and will probably remain so..

will just buy another with a working piston and overhaul it instead..

Yes, problem solved....I gave the stuffed section to my local wrecker, and he finally found another replacement..
that being said, it has been since then, that I have progressed from only having a frozen bleed nipple to totally disassembling the bike and now putting it back together... and I haven't finished with the front caliper yet.
