Back in my hometown, which is a dead steel town, the was this old mill that I used to haunt around after it was closed.  There were three or four lathes used for turbine generator armatures.  They had about an eight foot swing.  I wanted one but it would have been a bit overkill for my 1200 sq. ft. house.  I'll look for something smaller.  12'' might be a little more appropriate for me.
