Hey gang-
My uncle's K3 750 had a 4-into-1 header pipe on it for many years (don't know the brand) and 2 summers ago, it had finally rusted so badly that it opened a hole in the bottom. (It didn't look bad until he started it up in the grass and the grass was blowing around under it!)
So, no problem, I thought as I had a spare 4-into-1 header off of my bike so we swapped it out and that was that- or so we thought. The issue is his bike has a lowering kit, plus a Harley 16-inch wheel conversion, so it rides much lower. When going over large bumps or pulling into a driveway (going over the slope on the curb), the header kisses the pavement. This didn't happen with the old one.
After comparing the two, the old header had the four pipes coming together in "square" pattern, with the upper two pipes and bottom two pipes side-by-side and parallel with the ground, enabling it to tuck up tightly under the frame. The newer header has the pipes coming in differently, with one pipe on the top, two in the middle and one on the bottom, forming a "diamond" shape and hanging lower on the bike.
Can anyone recommend a fairly cheap header that might work more like the old one? The muffler is still in decent shape, so he can just clamp it onto the new header pipe. Since the weather is starting to warm up, I know he's going to be asking me about it soon...
