The fuel line out of my cb550 1976 tank splits and one half of the fuel goes
to the carbs on the the left and the other goes to the carbs on the right.
There is very little room in there to put in one inline filter for four carbs. The
only thing I could do is install one on each of the lines gong out to the right
carbs and one to the left carbs. The filters are the small inline ones with the plastic
screens that you can look into. So far so good no problems to report other than
I need to get out and ride more.

Anyone know what jets I need with pods?

Either SR-71 or 747,  Depends on whether you have clubmans and a butt hump, or not.

Do you think they used synthetic oil in those?    ;)

blah blah blah

The flaw in this analogy is that in the analogy something is broken, which isn't necessarily the case with a motorcycle. A better analogy would be having someone at high risk for bone fractures (such as a contact-sport athlete) wear a cheap, weightless, almost 100% unnoticeable shirt that's been proven to provide fantastic protection against arm fractures, and has a built-in x-ray machine that makes any arm fractions visually apparent. The only hitch is that you *gasp* have to occasionally look at the shirt to see if you have a fracture.

Speaking of rationalizing creatures, you could find 1000 different reasons to leave our bikes stock, but to make the claim that there is no better way to do something than the way a bunch of Japanese engineers chose to for a multitude of different reasons 35 years ago is about as good of a rationalization as I've heard.

I wonder what effect the filters would have if you were using PODS. Would one have to change the brand of OIL. If carrying a PISTOL while riding would that have any effect on performance.  ;D

TT is correct. This is a circular argument with no resolution. Just go out a and ride your friggin bike, the nice weather only lasts so long.

Only in the clubmans, butt humps are for homos so they require natural lubrication.

I put in a $55 K&N in my stock air box, hoped to lean out a slightly rich set up due to PO's modifications.

did not change a thing.

I have a inline filter, I think it is responsible for my 2% lower gas mileage, my throttle bog when low on fuel, and the low speed wobble I see at 95mph on concrete pavement...

I would worry that wobble would discharge the gun.  ;D

Don't worry, as long as it's lubed (the gun) with synthetic oil, and it's old, it won't fire. We all know that synthetic in old engines seize them, and do other horrible things.. :D

Mason, why would I spend that much and wait that long when I can spend $2 and wait 5 minutes-10 if there's a line?!

500 miles since I fitted my wee inline filter and no problems so far. :)

I couldn't really get mine to fit right with the f*cked up S-type bends the fuel line seems to need to make going into the carbs from the petcock on the 650.  I just took it off and the bike seems to have a little more pep again. :P Not that I wouldn't like that assurance, but I do have a brand new tank and brand new internal filter, so I guess I'll be ok.

Woke up (or at least called too late) an SOHC4 member (sorry man).  He said my sock was dirty.  I told him my socks were fine ;)  So, I took off my petcock and cleaned the sock.  There was fine silt on the lower half or more of the filter/sock.  Thanks "person to remain nameless", and again, sorry.

Ha, I like this idea. In case any of us get stuck on the road, we can call another knowledgeable member for help diagnosing the problem :D

I was reading through.  Gl1000's don't count, they have fuel pumps,  not under a foot of head pressure. Remember when the filter gels up, blowing into the gas cap is not an unmanly thing to do. If it starts your fuel flowing. Just don't breathe the blowback.

I was thinking about chiming in with the CB125S fuel tank version (from Honda engineers!) that has a little hose coming out of the gas tank that goes into the gathering loop on the steering head: it is the tank vent. I once told a kid that if he would blow into that while riding he could make the bike reach 90 MPH.

..that was cruel... :D

My method of blowing into the gas cap is tested and proven but not witnessed. Bwahahaha. Works on bikes from sandcasts to super sports. I've decided to trust Honda's design even when a painter left blasting sand in my tank.
