Basket Case Harley Sprint?
« on: March 25, 2009, 10:03:41 PM »
So a basket case '67 Harley Sprint frame with a '69 Sprint engine in a pile of parts has shown up on the local Craigs list. The guy says once summer gets here he's sending it off for scrap. Not complete.

Would it be worth my time to even bother? I'm not a H-D fan, but in this case I wouldn't mind if it has a majority of the parts. What do you think I should offer him if it's mostly there? How much do you suppose he'd get for scrap metal so I can offer a little higher than that? Once I get more info I'll update the thread so you guys have a better idea.

Scrap prices went down with construction. I'd start at 50 bucks.

250cc two stroke ?

Would be my guess, they didn't give much info on it, merely stated they had a frame and engine and various parts, but not complete. I am pretty intrigued about it. When I get more info I'll let you guys know.

250cc two stroke ?

Guys, it isn't a 2-stroke, there are valves and such under all that massive head and cylinder. ;)

it's just a sidevalve motor, like the flathead fords, the valves are in the cylinder block.

   Check this out:

I've got one of these 73' SS350s without the sidecar, the engine,
       and the electrics.

Sorry fuzzy, the valves are in the head. :(

Here's the response I got:

Quote
it needs forks rims tires exhaust and wiring.  It's not all origional.  z-bars and a coffin tank are custom.  front fender is aftermarket and the back fender is origional.  all in all if you are interested in building a bike this is a great start.  I was hoping to get my 600 investment back but highest offer gets it right now.

I think he's nuts  ;) But hot damn I like that bike, my late obsession with dirt track styling doesn't help either. No way I'd drop $600 on something in pieces though.

Whoa! :o Talk about living in "La La Land!" :D ::) Mine would be worth that much, if HIS is (AND mine doesn't even have an engine! ;D ).  I don't blame you. ;)

I got my 750k2 in pieces for free.  But we are talking Harley Davison, they fetch a little more.

I got my '77 550k mostly complete and assembled for free!

There's a complete Sprint on Ebay in pieces at $450 right now, and there's a bid on it. Rims, forks... This stuff adds up... I have some forks from a '73 550 and rims from the same bike that I could likely adapt to the Sprint. Wiring isn't a huge issue, but to me exhaust seems like a pretty major project. I just don't think it's worth what he wants to get for it, even if it is a Harley. I think I'll give it a week and if he still has it I'll offer him $150  ::)

I hear ya, about the cost of those Honda parts, and that's what I got that 73' Sprint for as well. 8) I'll probably pass it on, after I relieve it of those fenders and the gas tank. :D ;)
