Malcolm Smith's civil disobedience
« on: March 26, 2009, 05:33:22 AM »
Malcolm Smith (On Any Sunday) puts it on the line to protest a ridiculous and oppressive law against selling motorized recreational vehicles to kids under 12 on the pretext they're dangerous because of lead content.

I always thought Malcolm was cool, but how cool is that?

And a warning to all you parents: make sure your kids don't eat their motorcycles.

That's about as dumb as having anything that uses a battery too.  You know those little things that power EVERY FRIGGIN Kid's toy made now days from newborn to adult.  Batteries are known to have lead, mercury, cautic chemicals etc.

Grumpol, I've looked at my grandsons and said you know you really don't need a bb gun or a sling shot use a sling two shoelaces and a piece of canvas, leather and with practice you can take a golf ball sized rock and bust pop bottles at 50-60 feet and afterward it goes back to two shoelaces and a scrap at which time their mother tries to shut me up.

creativity, frugality, ingenuity, non-consumerism... their mother is focusing on the wrong aspects of what you are trying to teach them.

This law was not introduced to ban the sale of children's motorcycles, but ever since it was made that's the way a lot of people have been reacting.

It's a law with the best of intentions, but written with a ridiculous lack of research and absolutely no comprehension for the scope of the effect it will have.  Supporters are saying that it can be fixed after the fact, but why not just do it right the first time instead?  And failing that, since it's already been done incorrectly, scrap the whole thing and start over.

You're right on all counts Gordon. The misapplication of the law is the point. How does that happen and how does it become so virulent? I wouldn't be surprised to find environmental extremists behind it. The AMA is constantly running up against anti-recreational-vehicle lobbyists who view ATV and bike riders as engaging in misuse and abuse of the environment. And we are talking California here, typically at the cutting edge of environmental fascism.

Cabbage patch dolls actually make really good weapons in the right hands!  Squishy yet sturdy legs to hang on to, and a hard plastic, heavy head to smash your opponent with. ;D
