the "under tank" wiring loom

I searched on "wiring cover" before posting but didnt hit anything relevant.

I am about to put my newly cleaned out tank on my 400F and notice that the big wiring loom (a Y shaped junction on the left side of the bike just underneath the front rubber mount for the gas tank) looks a bit odd.  closer inspection reveals that the plastic cover has gone (I presume because of flexing over many years, plus the loom wasnt in the clips properly... Yay for the manual showing where it should go).

What I know I should do is pull the loom off, slide on some heat shrink plastic and then reinstall the wiring.  I have NO interest in doing that though. The issue is cosmetic only, so I am looking for suggestions as to covering the wires up until I do have to do it properly.

My idea at present is either standard electrical tape wound round, or some oooold self amalgamating tape I know I have in my bench somewhere, but I will gladly take better suggestions.

thanks

auto parts stores sell plastic wiring harness cover in different lengths. it is a corregated tube with a slit running down its length. Slide it over the length of wiring in question and wrap with Elec. tape to seal. I wouldn't run my bike with the wires under the tank uncovered. The hot  wire for the coils as well as other important systems are located there and shouldn't be exposed to moisture or the possibility of becoming exposed due to vibration and friction.

If you have a self service auto salvage yard in your area where they let you pull your own parts, find an Acura or Honda car and look under dash for wiring that is wrapped in the exact same black plastic sleeving that your bike harness has (if you're going for stock looks). Cut the harness of your choice and stock up.

Go here for the OEM look: http://waytekwire.com

Type "Vinyl tubing" in the product search bucket.

Waytek also carries the wide tape (and, just about every other fribit and frabit) to duplicate rear sections of loom.
